and forgotten that if you start unraveling its threads, the entire quilt is at grave risk . . . religion and capitalism are the two primary culprits in humanity's gross neglect of the natural world and the catastrophes that are resulting . . .

if the Europeans who came to America had had enough humility to learn from the natives they encountered, we'd live in an entirely different world today . . . but instead of learning and appreciating the magnificence of this new land, they took inventory -- and the results have been disastrous for all of humankind and especially for other species . . .
