Baghdad, Jul 18, (VOI) – Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki accused on Wednesday Arab research centers and media institutions of leading "conspiracy against Iraq ", Maliki's office said.

"Arab media and research centers based in several Arab and regional countries are conspiring against Iraq, its people and the whole political process," a statement released by the Iraqi PM's office quoted al-Maliki as saying during a meeting with clerics and tribal chiefs from Wassit province in Baghdad today.

"They consider killing women and children, bombing markets, targeting historical buildings, destroying power lines, and the electricity network…as Jihad" said the statement, of which the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) received a copy, describing the centers and media institutions without naming them.

The statement added "In spite of the challenges and the critical period Iraq is going through" Maliki, during the meeting, expressed optimism for the future.
"We stopped a lot of deterioration…and started chasing terrorists until they fled to neighboring and Arab countries, and they carried evilness with them, which we hope will not be transferred there…although these countries did not stand with us in facing terrorism", he said.
"They are key figures in mobilizing the public opinion" said the statement about Maliki's describing clergymen and tribal heads, and emphasized that "the government does not take the responsibility alone, but needs the support of the people…because its power springs from the people".
