But this isn't a novel event, and his species of Islam has no problem with it if it's necessary to obtain the proper submission. Wiping out the polytheists isn't exactly a crime in 13th-14th century Islam, and for some failing to wipe them out is. But putting down a rebellion--when subjects of lesser faiths fail to submit to those who submit to Allah--is also approved of.

In some theologies, genocide's low on the list of problems if it's done for the right cause. I don't happen to agree with those theologies, but I find it interesting that again we see from UBL the implication that Dar ul-Islam should properly only expand, regardless of the attitudes of the people actually living there. This is somewhat more than leit-motif in his pontifications; however, it is one that receives little comment or attention.
