This is the biggest drop since July 2000. Economists had been expecting factory orders to fall 5.3%, according to a survey conducted by Marketwatch. The drop was not so large because non-durable goods orders rose 2.2%. January durable goods orders were revised up slightly to a 9.9% drop from the initial estimate of a 10.2% drop. The biggest decline came in transportation orders. Ex-transportation, orders rose 1.6% in January.
