http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/state/20050120-9999-1n20beards.htmlSAN QUENTIN – Despite the seriousness and emotion inevitably tied to a state execution, the death of Donald Jay Beardslee was a relatively low-key event that drew little of the public attention given previous executions.
Beardslee, 61, sentenced to death for the murders of two San Mateo women in 1981, was pronounced dead at 12:29 a.m. yesterday after officials administered a lethal injection at San Quentin State Prison.
He was the 11th inmate to be executed at San Quentin since capital punishment was reinstated in California in 1978.
Other than the usual last-ditch legal maneuvers, Beardslee's execution generated little attention from celebrity death-penalty opponents and the national media.
