Bush Names Major Fundraiser as Economic Adviser

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush on Monday named Allan Hubbard, an Indiana businessman and major fund-raiser for his presidential campaigns, to serve as one of his top economic advisers, the White House announced.

Hubbard was a long-time trustee at the Hudson Institute, a conservative think-tank that normally supports Bush's policies. But during the 2004 campaign, the Institute accused Bush -- and his Democratic rival -- of not having a credible plan for cutting the budget deficit.

Hubbard is president of privately held E & A Industries, Inc. of Indianapolis, Indiana, which owns several chemical companies, including Car Brite, Inc., a maker of chemicals used to recondition cars...
