but I found this when I was looking to see if you were correct. I was surprised to see that the highest ranking Blue State was NY at 26th on the generosity index and my own Massachusetts at 49th. I believe that these numbers are based on per capita charitable contributions claimed on income tax returns.

It offers a few theories on why this might be the case, but all in all, I'm a little disappointed to see the Blue States showed up so poorly.
