I was only half-listening to a woman who works for whatever department handles the inquiries into the possible missing Americans. For some odd reason I remember this number. If anyone who has called into whatever authorities about knowing of anyone they might think could have been caught in this tragedy finds out any information on the people they have inquired about, they are supposed to call this number. Calling this number will help them get what I think was twenty thousand phone calls immediately after the major news of the tsunami, down to the four to five thousand they are still working on. They are supposedly going to try and match any type of records the different countries might have on American visitors to the list of names that are being called in by friends and relatives.
It does appear that other countries are doing a better job at getting names out of people missing, but I don't know about all the different ways countries go about keeping track of travelers. I have no idea what's going on.
It's all so unimaginable.
