14. 119 Rs and almost no discussion
It's not a very good statement, IMO.

For one thing, it reads like an attack on the reader. Show this to a member of the 99% who is not a supporter of OWS and they will read "YOU did this, YOU did that, YOU, YOU, YOU." It reads like a big message of "We do not like YOU" directed at the reader. It even closes not by asking that they join us (and the world will live as one) but demands that they get out of the way.

If you want this same message, which I still don't think is a very good one, it would at least deliver better if it started out like

"The 1% controls our world. They've poisoned the air we breathe, contaminated our water ...

The other problem is that many people do not think we breathe poisoned air or drink contaminated water.

Further, I wonder if the 1% should really take all the blame for pollution. How does the air get polluted? Doesn't the 99% cause some of that when we drive our cars, when we heat our homes, when we cool our homes with electricity from the local power plant and run our clothes dryers and hair dryers and so on?

And assasinated our leaders? What is this 1969 and :tinfoilhat: that it was the 1% who ordered the killing of JFK, RFK, MLK and Milk? Did they take a shot at Reagan and Ford too?

Of course I know that I am wrong, because the Rs show that the choir loves it. Unfortunately with this Jets/Sharks gang divide. the choir always loves a message that says FU to the other gang. We love to repeat that message and then we wonder why the idiots do not join our cause and support their self interest. Well, we wonder briefly, before we realize, once again, it is because they are evil morons.

You make some very good points.

Of course the 99% percent contributes to pollution, though I will say I think we try--at least liberals/dems/progressives--to offset and improve what we're doing.

I think you're being a little unfair with choir comment, your last paragraph could be taken as a FU to the other gang. Just sayin..

You don't have to agree with the entire message, and I doubt anyone does. People are probably agreeing with certain parts of it--hence all the recs.

I don't agree with all--but I do with some. I posted it because I think there's something in there that would speak to everyone. Isn't that what this is about?

I appreciate your comments, like I said you make very good points and I agree with some. Could have done without the last paragraph...

Nothing wrong with occassionally getting in the face of the oppressor and letting them know that the other 99% can 'bring it' too.

You can say what you want about Jesse, but in the relatively short time I've seen and heard what he has said...I have determined he is on my team.

Didn't he say 'I don't have time to Bleed' in a movie? Predator or something?

Point taken. It's time for the 1% to take some kind of responsibility for anything at all other than making themselves richer.

I think Egyptians and Lybians were saying this to their respective 1% (or one guy in these cases!).

15. A Moderate I know was saying the other day,
"The protests have no focus. They're completely disorganized. They need to come up with one or two issues and stick to their message."

I said, "There's just so much to be pissed off about," and listed a few.

Then this person got real quiet and thoughtful.

It's easy for the comfortable to ignore the reality of what's going on, and pretend the protesters are a bunch of bongo-playing hippies. Until you splash some cold water in their face in the form of facts.

20. I got that same line when I was in the dentist's chair yesterday.
If he hadn't been messing around in my mouth with sharp objects, I might have bitten him.

(No, I wouldn't have. He's a very kind and compassionate man who does his absolute best to care for his patients. He treats his staff well, pays for their vacations to the Caribbean--really!, and has always been willing to come to his office on weekends to provide emergency care. He's just clueless about politics.)

24. Not every protest (almost none actually)
are sponsored by a corporate entity with lock step followers paid for and organized by that corporation to push their specific ideas. That's a lot of the Tea Party protests, but not the norm.

The Kochs basically just used their shell organizations to cover up what was essentially 'live' commercials to support their cause, using the Coporate Media as their production crew.

30. Exactly
And when you read about OWS in comparison to the Tea Party astroturf "movement" in the M$M (for example, in a recent Time mag article) they never mention the corporate origins of the teabaggists.

Our society has been so conditioned to consuming things that are set up for them that many of us don't know how to paint without the numbers.

32. I agree with the sentiment and RECCED the thread, but WE are a big part
of the problem. WE have allowed much of this pollution, warmongering, and social destruction to occur through our own apathy and failure to take to the streets in outrage as the damage was being done.

I admit that I am one of the WE. Now I am trying to change what I have been complicit in by occupying and demanding change.

If you are not occupying or physically supporting Occupations then you are still part of the problem.

Americans are the world's most talented Arm-chair Quarterbacks, but you cannot quarterback your team to a win at the Super Bowl sitting in front of your TeeVee.

JOIN US AT YOUR LOCAL OCCUPATION OR START ONE IF THERE ISN'T ONE THERE. The time is NOW.

45. The republicans, wall street and the teabaggers have finally forced
most of the American people to fight for whats left of the middle class life or die penniless under a bridge somewhere. Now many know for a fact their lives will be a total waste. No jobs, no getting ahead, no house, no retirement, no health care, cant afford kids but if you do have them they will be raised in poverty and be worse off than you are!

Kids with college degrees lucky to find a 10 dollar an hour job. Then they can spend the rest of their lives with the crushing debt of their huge student loans hanging around their necks.

What has happened in history when whole generations realized they had no hope for a better future? Revolution! And its coming, one way or another.

Gangsters run wall street and our government. The guilty that destroyed our economy walk free with tax payer bonus money in their pockets!

Still the 1% have a tiny window of opportunity to stop it. President Obama and the democratic house and senate elected when he was could have stopped it. He could have been this generations FDR.

But no, didn't want to rock wall streets boat. I believe the 1% are so blinded by greed and all consuming hatred of the non rich they will never stop till they have destroyed us all.

The empires wars rage on and multiply. Social security is on the chopping block. Food stamps and welfare will go next. Millions and millions with no access to health care. Trillions for weapons of war but not a cent for jobs, infrastructure, education, etc.

We can always, always, ALWAYS find trillions of dollars for war and weapons but NEVER any for social programs! And God forbid making the rich pay taxes! Or the corporations that are raping this country every day! Their profits skyrocket and they pay ZERO TAXES! Hell most of them get huge refunds paid for by...you guessed it! US!!!!

No hope.

No hope.

NO HOPE! Desperate people with nothing to lose do desperate things.

A fact that the 1% has forgotten. They are being reminded of that now, but this is only the beginning! Rise up 99%!!!
