At my workplace office area today
And I work in the Public Works (local government) field.

I work with guys (not all but some) who claim to hate 'socialism' yet are being paid via public tax/fee dollars, have their health insurance paid for via tax dollars, uniforms via tax dollars, safety shoes via tax dollars, etc...

There will come a time when I will ask them if they hate government so much then why are they drawing a paycheck from the public sector?
I will ask also why they aren't running down to Human Resources Department to cancel their tax-dollar-paid-for health insurance.
Seems to me they could accomplish three things by doing so:

1. Get out from under an "evil" Union negotiated benefit.
2. Relieve the tax payer by pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps, dropping their employer's plan, and paying for a separate private health plan outside the workplace.
3. By doing this they would be true to their deep held convictions. The ones they scream about so loudly.

One of the loons put this up in our shared office space:

1. Report them to your HR department and have them fired.

5. Why not? You want them to have the "courage of their convictions" but you won't?

Don't call someone else a coward for not giving up their government job when they rail against the government...

...and then turn around and NOT fight their workplace intimidation tactics when they are on display.

4. I also think it should be taken/reported to HR as contributing to a
hostile work environment. I think a hostile environment consists of more than sexual harassment.

10. It is...
A Hostile Environment is an environment which makes another employee/group of employees feel harassed, intimidated, demeaned or uncomfortable at work because of factors which are being caused by conduct that is not job related.

I worked for a governmental agency as well and that was our criteria. You can file an EEO complaint based on experiencing and documenting a hostile work environment.

What surprises me here is that in most governmental agencies it is against the standards of conduct for employees to bring political symbols , discuss politics or to identify themselves as employees of the government when they are engaged in political activities outside of work. Most government workers have to sign off on their standards of conduct every year and that signed document is placed in their personnel files. Employees are responsible for learning the standards of conduct and conducting themselves in such a way as to adhere to them. That poster is political. It should be taken down. If it is not a violation of the employment standards of conduct it is creating a hostile environment and the employer could be targeted for an EEO complaint.

11. Would Fox News qualify?

Every morning in our employee lounge area (where we hold morning meeting also) FAUX is blasting on the TV.

A couple of RW'ers get there early and put it on.

14. If you have TV .....
It should be for common use in a break room. There should be a consensus among the staff, not just one or two employees deciding for everyone. It should not be used during work related meetings for the good of your business.

You could try writing a short memo to your supervisor asking if he/she will address the situation which you find disturbing. See what the reply is. If the situation is not addressed ask for a meeting with your supervisor and try to discuss it. I could better advise you what to do next or what to do if you got a hostile reaction if I knew whether or not you worked in the public or the private sector. I did EEO counseling for a governmental entity as a collateral duty, and the rules are different there. If you feel awkward about posting anything in public, you can PM me.

If you are a supervisor, you can talk to the offending employees and ask them to watch something else while they are in the workplace. If they are not responsive put it in writing to them with a copy in their personnel files. I hope it goes well for you. That was one good thing about working for the feds. They didn't give us TVs and you weren't supposed to listen to the radio, but that was not a bad thing. Refusing to provide us with coffee was the real cruelty. ;) But we made our own or brought in a thermos, so that we were almost sentient some of the time.

7. Jr. Redneck I Worked With
I worked at a Budweiser Dist. during the Clinton administration. One of the kids in the warehouse put up an anti Clinton flyer from Gun Owners Of America on our bulletin board. I took it down to keep him from getting in trouble and stuck it in my desk.
Our boss/part owner was a hard core Republican but we didn't allow any politics at work. He came back from lunch and was pissed that it was gone. I told him I took it and gave it back. I warned him but he put it back up. The boss found it and he got his ass chewed.
This idiot really couldn't believe that everyone didn't think the way he did.
