DU Job Posting
There should be a job posting board.

Does one exist?

1. Now this is one of the best ideas I've ever heard at DU.
If one exists, it needs more attention.

25. That would be helpful, also. Some of us have been out of the workforce
for awhile and don't realize how much protocol has changed.

23. Never offer "whatever" on DU. You never know what could come up.
It might even be too much fun for one person to have. ;)

10. since I"m looking for work, I also like the idea of a separate job board... the only
thing that worries me is whether freepers could sabotage employment of DUers that way.
I recall how a single comment I made here once was carried through Michelle Malkin and all the conservative blogosphere as "looney" or insane.

My concern would be that a job board would need to be protective of actual identities in some way to prevent cyberstalking by freeper idiots.

14. Hiring A Freeper Wouldn't Be Such A Bad Idea
Sometimes you have to change one heart and mind at a time.

By Freeper I mean your garden variety conservative not a racist, bigot, or homophobe.

24. That's true. People can change. I had to undo some brainwashing to
get to this point. I have friends who overcame it also, one was a pilot in the Navy under Raygun. She voted for Gore and for Gay marriage equality in CA.

13. Maybe A Group On Linked-In
I think a forum would be a great idea. It could serve two purposes. First, and most imporant, as a place where those who've just "hit the beach" can find some support...some ideas on how to cope and feel better about themselves to get in the right attitude to move forward. Then to have a networking group...thus I mentioned Linked-In...that can help someone in the market connect not only on DU but around the country in networking and getting back into the game.

Just my .02...your mileage may vary...

15. Nobody here owns businesses. We're all workers.
We're not rich. We're poor slobs trying to get jobs or keep the jobs we have. Who the hell would hire us or post jobs for us?

Now, you go to the freeper boards...they have money and they can post jobs. But we will never get them.

16. Plenty Of DUers Own Businesses
I even own a small business, albeit one that is not doing well, like many businesses at this time.

I also saw a demographic profile of DUers. There were many DUers who were making what I would call a decent living -50 to 75K and up.

The biggest Freeper I know is on the ESPN board and he bsrely makes minumum wage working in loss prevention.,,,

32. Anyone can hear about a job
Being on the job market right now I've discovered that its hard to cover all the bases. It used to be the newspaper was the place to find most job postings. Now I check at least 10 different websites regularly and I still discovered that I missed a posting for a job I could have been great at and had a pretty good chance of getting but I missed the deadline. If someone here had known about it and posted something or someone on the work- related listserve I belong to had said something, I might have found it and had a chance.

20. sounds like a great idea. now you need a mission statement.
Edited on Wed May-27-09 08:53 AM by mopinko
need another thread with a mission statement, and i think you need 10 people to agree that they would like to be a part of that group.
you will need to flog this fairly regularly, i suspect. seems like something where interest for any particular member would be short lived.

27. ozymandius tried to get one started
Ozy is the host of DU's excellent Stock Market Watch. He was trying to get a job board/employment resource going earlier this year but Skinner didn't support it. There were lots of great ideas batted around on the topic at the time and wide support from the denizens of SMW.

Here's the link to today's SMW:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x3894400

I would like to see an employment resource at DU but if we can't get one going here I would be happy to host one on my website which is oriented to the economic crisis, see link at my sig line below. If anyone here is willing to work on getting it going, please contact me. That said, I think it would be better to have it at DU because it's a much larger and established community and would be able to reach and help more people.

28. been sorta trying to get one started in the wisconsin dis group
i decided to try it in the state group because well mostly jobs are fairly local.
have had some response to the post.
The nice thing about doing it thru a state post is that the state groups tend to post less
often so the post will stay around a little longer....
a job search forum is needed
