Breaking: President Obama did not have hand on Bible during do-over oath!
WASHINGTON (Spurious News Network) -- When President Obama took the oath of office on January 20, his left hand rested on President Lincoln's Bible. When he took the oath of office the second time, it did not.

"He had a copy of the Constitution," said an unnamed source. "He downloaded a copy of the Constitution, punched the oath of office up to about 48 point, printed it, highlighted it and held it out in front of him so Chief Justice Roberts couldn't fuck it up again."

9. Actually, George Washington did
St. John's Lodge No. 1, A.Y.M., F & A.M. is the owner of what is now known as the George Washington Inaugural Bible. On April 30, 1789 it was upon this Bible that George Washington took his oath of office as the first President of the United States.

Since that time, the Bible has been used for the inaugurations of Warren G. Harding, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Jimmy Carter, and George H.W. Bush (whose 1989 inauguration was in the bicentennial year of George Washington's). The Bible was also intended to be used at George W. Bush's inauguration, but the inclement weather prevented it. However, the Bible was present in the Capitol Building in the care of three members of St. John's Lodge, in case the weather improved.

In addition to its inaugural duties, the Bible has been utilized in the funeral processions of Presidents George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Jackson, and Zachary Taylor. The Bible has also been utilized at the cornerstone laying of the U.S. Capitol, the dedication of the Washington Monument, the centennials of the cornerstone laying of the White House, U.S. Capitol, and the Statue of Liberty, the 1964 World's Fair as well as the launching of the aircraft carrier George Washington.

Other presidents who have made use of the Bible include Andrew Jackson and Gerald Ford.

14. Hmmm...
George W. Bush inauguration = inclement weather enough to derail the Washington Bible
Barack H. Obama inauguration = cold, but sunny and bright, Lincoln Bible accounted for

Omen? Discuss.

7. Actually, the bible is not a requirement.
It's simply a dramatic touch, as with many things christian.

The words however are prescribed in the constitution, and I'm sure they were argued over at length.

18. Oh no! McCain is actually president now!
Argh almighty!

It's funny because he doesn't even have to take the oath. He becomes president at noon on the 20th. Or so I have just made up a new law.

23. So we have to have a do-over of the "do-over" ?
And who will do the do-over? Roberts and Obama seem too unreliable. Freepers will insist the do-over be done by Scalia and McCain.
