Some interesting finds about Sarah Palin..
First of all this is the place where much of this came from
http://www.adn.com/front/

She has been under consideration for the VP for a long time. This article from May, but there are many that date back further.

"Somebody reads somebody else'e blog and then the momentum starts building."

From David Hulen, ADN local/state news editor --

The buzz over Sarah Palin as a potential running mate for John McCain continues – and it's escalating. It’s mainly happening in the conservative blogosphere – one blogger after another after another looking at our governor from afar and deciding she’d be a good choice as the Republican running mate. The drum-pounding started last year with that Colorado blogger who launched the Draft Sarah Palin for Vice President site. It spread from there, and Palin added fuel to the fire in February when she sat down with the Washington Post and said, yep, she'd be interested in national office someday (while calling the idea of being tapped this year "an impossibility this go-round.")

Then today, the site Wizbang.com posted this:

A tipster sent us word that John McCain's VP advance man Arthur Culvahouse has been spotted in Juneau, Alaska. There's only one reason he would be there - to meet with Alaska Governor Sarah Palin about the Vice President position....

Governor Palin would (in my estimation) make an excellent VP candidate for McCain. Thomas Cheplick at The American Spectator makes the case that she's probably the only VP candidate who can balance the ticket against Obama. She's also a potential magnet for disaffected Hillary Clinton voters, many of whom are just looking for a reason not to vote for Obama.

....She's been to Kuwait...

SEPTEMBER 6, 2007 - 4:38 PM
(PRESS RELEASE BEGINS)
Governor Palin Highlights Hunting Opportunities to Returning Alaska Troops

September 6, 2007, Juneau, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin today informed Alaska National Guardsmen and women serving in combat that big game hunting opportunities will be available when they return from combat zones this fall.

“I heard from many Alaskans serving overseas during my trip to Kuwait in July,” said Governor Palin. “One of the most frequent questions was about the status of hunting seasons upon their return. While I can’t grant our troops the chance to hunt in closed areas or in places with species restrictions, I do want to recognize them and help them hunt this late fall or winter when they get home.”

The governor's appearance on KWHL's "The Bob and Mark Show" last week is plain and simple one of the most unprofessional, childish and inexcusable performances I've ever seen from a politician.
-----------------
The Daily News opinion page addressed the governor's gaffe. They wrote "She came off looking immature herself, almost high-schoolish. It was conduct unbecoming a governor."

It was conduct unbecoming a human being, never mind a governor.
http://www.adn.com/opinion/story/295464.html

this from October 2006, when she was running for Governor...long article.. my favorite quote:
Palin has cited her mayoral work as a central part of her qualification to serve as governor. But at the beginning of her term, asked by the local newspaper how she would run the city without experienced department heads, she made the job sound like no big deal: "It's not rocket science. It's $6 million and 53 employees."

Palin explains her actions in Ruedrich case

ETHICS: Former oil and gas commissioner's missteps went beyond his partisan work.

By RICHARD MAUER
Anchorage Daily News

Published: September 19, 2004
Last Modified: September 20, 2004 at 12:14 AM

WASILLA -- Sarah Palin thought of herself as an investigator.
Yet there she was, hacking uncomfortably into Randy Ruedrich's computer, looking for evidence that the state Republican Party boss had broken the state ethics law while a member of the Alaska Oil & Gas Conservation Commission

Ruedrich had resigned on Nov. 8 -- so suddenly that when Palin, the commission's chairwoman, caught the news at the end of a television newscast, she didn't know whether he had quit the commission or quit the party to resolve his conflicts of interest. When she learned it was the commission, Palin wasn't surprised that she'd heard it first from the media, given her difficulty in getting any word from the governor's office about Ruedrich, who played a major role in Gov. Frank Murkowski's election.

The next week, when Palin went back to work at the AOGCC, she noticed that Ruedrich had removed his pictures from the walls and the personal effects from his desk. But as she and an AOGCC technician worked their way around his computer password at the behest of an assistant attorney general in Fairbanks, they found his cleanup had not extended to his electronic files.
--------------------------------
Palin has been mayor of Wasilla, lost the 2002 primary for lieutenant governor by less than 2,000 votes, and has been described as a rising star in the Republican Party. Wanting to explain her actions, particularly to her Mat-Su neighbors, she agreed to an extensive series of interviews about the circumstances surrounding Ruedrich's resignation. She and others at the commission said Ruedrich's questionable activities involved more issues than the partisan matters cited in the ethics charges and made public. She said Ruedrich had conflicts of interest with oil companies, and she said he sought reimbursement from the state for travel that included political events, accusations that Ruedrich denies.

Governor's husband goes back to BP job on the North Slope

SLOPE WORKER: One critic calls timing bad as oil tax debate nears.

Alaska's first gentleman has returned to work for BP on the North Slope.

Todd Palin took a leave of absence from the company in January and went back to work late last month, according to Sharon Leighow, a spokeswoman for Gov. Sarah Palin, Todd's wife.

Todd Palin took the leave to deal with a hectic schedule and help take care of the family's four children, Leighow said, and not because of any conflict of interest.

Todd Palin's role

From Sean Cockerham in Anchorage --

It's not uncommon for Gov. Sarah Palin's husband, Todd, to be included on governor's office e-mails, a fact raising questions about how much influence the "First Dude" has in state government.

MONEGAN SPEAKS: Names Todd Palin & others
http://www.andrewhalcro.com/monegan_speaks_says_todd_palin_pressured_him_to_fire_wooten
Tonight on KTUU Channel 2 News, former Commissioner of Public Safety Walt Monegan broke his silence and admitted that he was pressured on numerous occasions by Todd Palin to fire State Trooper Mike Wooten.

Monegan said he met with Palin numerous times to talk about Wooten as well as Frank Bailey from the governor's office and Commissioner of Administration Annete Krietzer who also pressured him to fire Wooten.

It was just yesterday that Palin put out a press release that stated:

“To allege that I, or any member of my family, requested, received or released confidential personnel information on an Alaska State Trooper, or directed disciplinary action be taken against any employee of the Department of Public Safety, is, quite simply, outrageous.

Governor Palin lied. In fact Monegan stated in the KTUU interview that he finally told the administration that the conversations about firing Wooten had to stop.

Shadow Governor?

Coming Thursday: The Shadow Governor

In the aftermath of the Walt Monegan firing, one question keeps surfacing over and over again; why does the governor's husband, Todd Palin appear to hold so much power?

After all, Nancy Murkowski or Susan Knowles were never accused of pressuring a commissioner or inappropriately sitting in on meetings that should have been private.

The stories started last year when Representative Ralph Samuels told me about going into a meeting, he thought would be private, with Governor Sarah Palin. Much to his surprise, Todd Palin was there and proceeded to sit through the entire meeting.

Other lawmakers have shared similar stories and were shocked at how inappropriate Todd's presence was at meetings with the governor. Yesterday on the Dan Fagan Show, Representative Jay Ramras mentioned that Todd was working lawmakers offices during the ACES debate.

But more importantly, Todd's fingerprints on trying to impact personnel decisions appear to go beyond the current scandal revolving around State Trooper Mike Wooten.

5. that's the really scary part...
this is from one of the articles above too, regarding her relationship with the press...
(It was a sharp contrast to her attitude toward the Daily News expressed in a 1993 letter, in which a seething young Wasilla city councilwoman called the paper "dangerously biased" for its coverage of Sen. George Jacko, a key member of the Republican majority in Juneau. Jacko had been caught trying noisily to get into the room of a female legislative aide and was eventually censured by the Legislature.

("How can you justify your restraint in slamming the Clintons, Kennedys, Marion Barrys and other philandering, chauvinistic left-wingers of the world?" Palin wrote at the time. "Your yellow, liberal rag is so obvious. I pray we will someday have a choice in newspapers again.")

9. I still don't think McCain can beat Obama...provided everything is on the up and up
and I find McCain's choice to be insulting - primarily because I'm reacting as a woman who has been too long monitoring the right wing fundies and their attitudes about women..and Palin fits the right wing fundie good wifey hypocrisy bill to a T...but more and more the choice seems planned....

It's meant to bring the right fundies out and in support of McCain - I get that....but it's also meant to give Palin a launch nationally. That's the part that has me the most curious.

10. Apparently she has some kind of federal conviction
And she has managed to play it off as a paperwork issue. See: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x6827471#6827567

The stuff about her husband interfering in the gov's mansion is certainly interesting.

And the audio of the radio appearance apparently was online at one point. I'm sure somebody's got a copy of that.

Sheesh, I can't wait to see what turns up tomorrow!
