House Oversight Subcommittee Hearing on Walter Reed - ***AT*** Walter Reed
Edited on Wed Feb-28-07 07:16 PM by CorpGovActivist
Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs hearing on the Treatment of Wounded Soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center
Monday, March 5, 2007, time to be announced, at Walter Reed Army Medical Center

FYI...

- Dave

Edit added: P.S. I suggest calling the Oversight Committee Staff, to ask that Chairman Waxman sit in on this hearing, ex officio: http://oversight.house.gov/contact.asp

"Rule 9 -- Ex Officio Members

The chairman and the ranking minority member of the Committee shall be ex officio members of all subcommittees. They are authorized to vote on subcommittee matters; but, unless they are regular members of the subcommittee, they shall not be counted in determining a subcommittee quorum other than a quorum for taking testimony."

Military Officers Association of America: http://www.moaa.org/

Both are in Alexandria, Virginia, very close to the facility.

35. From what I hear, Filner is plenty pissed off about this and is waiting on the oversight hearing...
... I'm not really sure why they'd want to have identical hearings in two different committees.

... go out to a random VAMC, while the Oversight Committee hits Walter Reed?

41. Is the Senate planning any hearings...
... I don't know who decides which committee does what hearing but at least the House is having a hearing. Six months ago we would only have gotten a promise of a hearing.

I believe the good Senator from Hawaii (I can't remember which) is the chair of the veterans committee in the Senate... any idea if he plans to hold a hearing? A joint House and Senate inquiry would really get the Pentagon to square that shit away a.s.a.p. The most important thing right now is that the problem gets fixed and the only way to fix it quick is to start chewing some ass mixed with some good old fashioned public humiliation. Bush might not like "playing the blame game" but it sure as hell gets things done with a quickness.

42. Senator Akaka's Statement
http://veterans.senate.gov/index.cfm?FuseAction=Newsroom.PressReleases&id=920

“I am deeply concerned about this situation, both as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and, given that many of these wounded troops will soon be classified as veterans, as Chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee. I intend to hold a hearing next month on cooperation between VA and the Department of Defense on the treatment of injured service members, and I will purse the situation at Walter Reed and other military treatment facilities that are handling the bulk of returning Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans to ensure that the government is helping those who have been injured in service to our country, and their families,” Senator Akaka said. “I’m pleased to see that Walter Reed has begun some immediate work on the one residence facility that sounded the worst in the report. There is a solemn compact between the nation and those who wear its uniform and I will do everything in my power to ensure that it is honored.”

With Members of Congress and their staffers walking the halls with cameras in tow, I suspect that the muzzling will subside - and right quick.

20. My Guess Is That the Washington Post Will Be Present; Other Media...
... should be tipped off, to ensure that the major regional outlets send someone from their respective Washington, DC bureaus.

So, if you live in Boston, call the Boston Globe and ask that they make sure to send someone from their Washington bureau. Ditto SF, LA, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, Houston, etc.

It's so disgusting the fact that, VA is in bedded with NEO-CONS! Veterans Affairs had been siding with neo-cons past 7 years and they'd allowed Neo-cons to cut vets bills and lies to vets.
