Bush threatens veto of 30-day FISA extension.
Bush threatens veto of 30-day FISA extension.

“The White House told Democratic congressional leaders” today that President Bush would veto “a 30-day extension of an expiring eavesdropping law and instead wants an expanded version to be passed by Friday.” In a statement, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-CA) called Bush’s posturing “shamefully irresponsible,” adding that “if there is any problem, the blame will clearly and unequivocally fall” on President Bush:

The White House threat to veto a short extension of the Protect America Act is shamefully irresponsible. The President is simply posturing in advance of Monday’s State of the Union address. <…>

The House has already passed a FISA bill, and the Senate was ready to pass its own bill until Republicans blocked all amendments. At the same time, Democrats are ready to extend current law for as long as necessary, but Republicans are blocking that extension and the White House is threatening a veto.

1. dumb bastard doesn't know what irony is
it is oh-so-critical that it be passed immediately or more buildings will be attacked within seconds, but he'll veto rather than leave any wiggleroom to kill the retroactive immunity.

Bottom line:

Retroactive immunity is NOT necessary for national security. It is a completely separate issue. His insisting on it is to keep HIMSELF out of jail, because cases against the telcos would expose what he was doing BEFORE 9/11.

3. Your so right,
and it really pisses me off that none of the so called Democratic leaders have the balls to come out and publicly tell * to his face what you wrote: "Retroactive immunity is NOT necessary for national security. 2. And * is in no effective position to use Congress' defiance to his
and RNC's political advantage with the accusation that dems are soft on terrorism and security. He can only lose with his usual bullying posture.

Check and check-mate.

4. They should encourage him to veto it then
but if the Dems continue to behave as they have recently. There will be a rolling over and bare-ing their necks ceremony shortly before the pretzledent picks up his pen.
