Feingold: Edwards sounds just like him and he doesn't like that.
Now I have been a major Feingold supporter for years and will continue to be, but he basically said he doesn't like Edwards because he sounds too much like himself. He brought up votes that Edwards made in the Senate on issues that he now doesn't agree with, like the AUMF.

However, the fact that he still considers Clinton is evidence that this is not about past votes since Edwards and Clinton voted the same way on those bills. The difference being that Edwards is the one who has changed to the progressive positions while Clinton is not there. So someone who has changed to the right positions is ruled out, but the person who did the same thing in the past and is still that way is ok?

17. how so? Russ is as true to his ideals as almost any Senator
I can see where he would disrespect JE for not bowing to the powers when he had the chance to cast the right votes. I want to hear more from JE explaining that.

2. So Why Didn't Feingold Run
Now there's a candidate I could have enthusiastically backed!

Instead he just wants to complain about who is running?

What gives, Russ?

3. I think the good senator, who I greatly admire, is wishing Edwards had never entered.
Edited on Thu Jan-17-08 09:37 PM by Heaven and Earth
With Edwards in the race, there was no funding or positioning for Feingold himself. Frankly, if it would have gotten Feingold into the race, I would rather JRE not have been in the race either. But Feingold should have been more confident. He could have knocked off JRE and taken his funding if he had just believed in himself and us more.

8. Why are you people always trying to paint Clinton as being
to the right when her actual voting record is very much like the other 2 candidates. Plus she has been very active in helping people including children who are less fortunate. Read her history of her work. She has been dedicated to helping others for years and doesn't deserve the meanness that is leveled at her. What has Obama actually done?

9. This is the same Feingold whose vote let Ashcroft out of committee.
Yes, he singlehandedly gave America John Ashcroft.

And then there's the time he voted to allow the Clinton impeachment to move forward.

I like Feingold, but I don't think he's the second coming, as a lot of people here do.

49. Even if Edwards is a phony, he's the first candidate since Jerry Brown to even make the attempt!
I've never experienced a campaign that even tried to tell me what I wanted hear. I like it, allot. It just shows how poorly the establishment Dem's regard me (and those who believe as I do). We aren't even worth a little lip service. What's more, I believe Edwards is genuine and I don't care if it's sincerity or his skill as a politician that I find convincing. I've voted in every election since turning 18, I've never voted for a Republican, ever. I'm tired of being taken for granted.

19. Edwards has been out of the senate for almost 4 years
He has been working on progressive ideas and projects.
He has supported Feingold's Iraq legislation and argued for it.
I am so surprised at Senator Feingold who doesn't seem to remember that Obama undermined him.
I just think the senate clubbiness is really a bit much.
Edwards put the sunset clause in the Patriot Act. It still got renewed.

23. If he has a personal beef -
A public forum such as the OP is refering is not the way to handle it. Edwards is running on the most progressive platforms to date, and if Feingold truly believes that he himself is a progressive, it would benefit him to see Edwards policies pushed through. He's having a hard time deciding between Clinton and Obama - He is no progressive if he supports those two. Clinton's Kyl-Leiberman vote and corporate backers and Obama's Nuclear/Liquefied Coal stance and he continued votes to fund the Iraq war should be deal breakers, but obviously, they are not.

24. If you dislike someone you may pull what Feingold did
I think the most likely explanation is he doesn't like Edwards for some reason and wants to hurt his candidacy. Why didn't he say this before or after New Hampshire? He says this right before the Nevada caucus, which is crucial for Edwards.
