Do you ever get depressed sometimes?
I've been trying so hard to take good biomarkers into my blood/muscle, but after looking at some of the posts here, it seems it does not matter very much.

Just curious about what others think. I'm so tired...

it's good to take some time away from current events when it gets to be too much.

13. It is not a stupid issue, Mike03.
I know it's easy to be down on yourself when you're depressed, so I'm going to tell you: "It's not s stupid subject to bring up. It's healthy to bring it up."

5. in these times it is very easy to get depressed, but try to find an
escape, exercising is my way just walking and breathing real deep can help. Or you will just go crazy thinking about things.

6. Always of late, and severely so...
but, surprisingly, reading through DU does SOMETHING to help me.

It sure as shit doesn't inspire me or make me feel better in any way. If one reads through here and absorbs all the negativity (both real and perceived), we'd jump off the nearest bridge within minutes!

Interestingly, reading through the threads and reading the pervasive DEFEATIST attitude makes me want to keep fighting. So many bitch and moan but whenever anyone offers a possible ACTION to take, they jump all over it and say it's useless.

Why in the HELL are these people who are nonstop doom and gloom here? Let's acknowledge the problems (yes, I realize the list is overwhelming in and of itself) and brainstorm ways to work through it.

You defeatists bitch about the ignorance of mainstream American, but what good does all your knowledge do if you give up...roll over and play dead?

(sorry to vent here, Mike...thanks for allowing the space to do so...lol)

7. I think I know what you mean
I come here looking for GOOD news-signs that times are going to change for the better- and so often get disappointed. But when I read all those doom and gloom "why bother? it's hopeless". posts my rebellious nature takes over and I find myself thinking "Oh yeah? Well I'm gonna do all I can to change it"! Frankly, I think a lot of the defeatists say what they do in hopes of having someone prove them wrong. They just can't come right out and say "I'm feeling hopeless about this issue. Please give me some information that will help me change my mind and feel better " So instead hey post a bit of flame bait that gets everyone stirred up-both the optimists and the pessimists.

11. Very interesting ,and probably spot on as to why some interact ...
the way they do. There are probably as many motives/intentions are there are people, and perhaps one day I'll learn not to try to understand them all. ;-)

I'm definitely with you about the rebellious aspect! "I'll show you!" - indeed! LOL.

Your cats are beautiful. I just lost two within a six-week span (an 11-year-old and 17-year-old), so I get all weepy when I see others' "babies."

:hi:

16. Awww, Thanks. I'm so sorry that you lost two within such a short span
of time. I don't know if I could have handled that. I used to do pet rescue and lost quite a few kittens to panleukapenia and FIP, so I had to get out of it even though I felt that I was doing something worthwhile. I just couldn't handle it emotionally.

I lost my 18 year old tuxedo kitty Miro (in my sig line) at the end of 2006 and got a new kitten about six months later. Then he developed FIP and I lost him last August. That was really tough too. But now I have a new furbaby, little Pippin:

and he's just as impish as he looks! He's crashed out in my lap as I type this. He's such a silly little guy that he keeps me sane by making me laugh despite what's happening in the world. New life can sometimes give us a bit of hope.

19. My critters bring me peace.
They ARE at peace: two cats, two dogs and a "step-dog" who's adopted US.

The love with them is reciprocal. They just love the sight of their 'people'. It's so comforting.

21. They do indeed! That's one of the most rewarding things about keeping
pets. I come home and all three of my cats are sitting by the front door waiting for me. Even before I step onto the porch I can see my Maine Coon through the glass door, sitting up on his hind legs and pawing at it, so eager to see "mom". There's a purity about their affection that erases so many negative thoughts.

20. How cute!!!!! (Mike03, hope you're not a cat hater...lol....we're taking over for a minute!)
He is so darn adorable. I couldn't do pet rescue either - it tore me up. I admire people in healthcare-type positions (both for humans and four-legged friends) more than I can say...I can't do what they do and I'm so grateful for them.

I haven't handled it well at all. The loss of Jack the 11 y/o was sudden and very, very unexpected (one morning he's fine, that afternoon...gone), and his passing seemed to take a huge toll on my 17 y/o which really surprised me since they never seemed "close."

Losing Rosie, the 17 y/o was extra hard because, as odd as it sounds, she was my last link to the son I lost 17 years ago. 2007 sucked royally...lol.

I'd better get back to work - enjoy kitty cuddling on your lap!!!

Works for me every time. And, it actually does something for real people. Which is a helluva lot more than politicians do.

9. Don't take anything personally. None of it is you.
The conditions of the world are what they are. People at DU vent, and many make it personal. None of it is you. I vent and sometimes make it personal, but I always stand back and see that it all passes by and is not what I am.

Clinical Depression is a bitch (Remnants of a run in with a disagreeable drug) and is one of those things that is made worse by the fact that people feel you can fix it by just "cheering up- snap out of it-stop thinking negatively".

I may suffer from depression but I refuse to give up fighting( I hope that makes sense)

12. OMG, that makes sooooo much sense!
"I may suffer from depression but I refuse to give up fighting."

When I post my "why sound so defeated?" comments, I am fully cognizant of the fact that I am extremely depressed, at this stage probably clinically depressed resulting from longstanding situational depression. Believe me, I see the irony.

So, it's nice to see someone who can empathize about being depressed yet continuing to fight.

:)

18. Yep. And I also agree; clinical depression is a bitch. But I found one thing
that really works: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=276&topic_id=1649&mesg_id=1649 I turned another DUer on to it and it seems to help her too: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=276x2811#3278
I had tried all the drugs and only got minimal relief. This is a much less expensive method of treating clinical depression with NO side effects.

22. Thank you.
I'll check it out, especially as a survivor of GAD and mild but chronic depression and a "super sensitive" disposition to prescribed medications (although, one did convince me that, if I ever have the money, I should invest in fuller lips --> they look FABULOUS on me *giggle*).

15. I am distressed by my own personal circumstances. But, what I see beyond me is more painful.
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 11:14 AM by sicksicksick_N_tired
Within my little space on this earth, I have two close relatives fighting cancer. Both are insured but still indebted tens of thousands in medical costs,...as if the cancer isn't punitive enough. I am inspired by their faith, regardless of all odds against them. Then, again, I am amazed at my 78-year-old neighbor just down the road getting up each day and scheduling any activity to keep going after the loss of his wife to cancer just a year ago. There's my other neighbor who's worked for Kroger for over a quarter century managing to maintain a reasonable livelihood in spite of raising two children with severe disabilities.

I see such incredible strength of human spirit in contrast to absolute corrupt thought and deed by those who have no economic worries over their basic needs. It's horrifying to me to witness the absolute worst human weaknesses in charge of leading 'the free world' and held out as an example to all humanity. These barbarians have set an example for generations to come. They have bombed and gutted the accomplishments of the last century and that makes me cry.

That the barbaric really, for real, do not give a damn,...makes me incredibly sad.

Nevertheless, I see examples of the best of human existence every single day. I wish our culture would be obsessed with the examples of the best of humanity rather than the worst, the ones that simply tear us all down. Of course, the powers that be KNOW perpetuation of 'conflict' keep humanity from ever challenging the status quo.

17. If you're feeling depressed/tired a lot, in an unusual way ...
You might want to get checked for clinical depression. It can really knock you for a loop, but there are very effective ways to deal with it under professional supervision. :)
