I must be a left wing wacko
I was just listening to Sen Bernie Sanders on the Tom Hartman show, and I found his attitude depressing. He didn't support impeachment, and he was very defensive toward callers who called to criticize the senate Dems for being wussies. Kept bringing up the "we need 60 votes to stop a filibuster" bullshit. And this guy is one of the furthest left of senators.

Are we not bitching loud enough? Are there not enough of us? Is the senate really just a good ol boy's club where the loyalty of all the members is to the organization itself rather than their constituents? WTF is their problem?

1. he is being pragmatic.
why bring up impeachment if there is not the votes to accomplish it? to say they did it? hopefully they at least broach many of our concerns and try to twist arms to pass our agenda.

3. Please explain something re your government to a non-American.
I keep hearing that the Dems are not responding to the wishes of the people who voted them in to change things....As I understand it, they only have ONE more Congress member than the Reupubs. Isn't that the answer to the problem? That they don't have enough of a majority? Or is there something I don't understand?:hi:

5. that's basically it--we don't have a prayer of changing anything
until we get 9 more senate seats, and improve our majority in the House by about 17. Not becasue it's unheard of, it's just that this Senate has such partisan Republicans that they have pledged to block anything the Dems try to do, just to make us look bad to the voters in 08. The Dems know this, and they try to sound and act optimistic, but there is really not that much they can do in the face of a desparate recalcitrant minority willing to cheat.

6. Then it might just be time to stop bitching...
and listen for a moment-- since we are not getting what we want, perhaps we can find out what we can get.

7. Sounds like you are right...
...because anyone who would confuse Sen Bernie Sanders, a Centrist/Realist, with an extreme Leftist, sounds like a "left-wing wacko" to me.

Me, I proudly refer to myself as a Liberal Democrat.

8. Things change slowly, except during times of revolution.
It took the right over 20 years to get to this point. We need to be prepared to deal with a long war, and not get frustrated and give up over smaller battles.

10. He's not the farthest left
Progressive Punch rates him at number 9 out of 100.

Ahead of him are Lautenberg, Menendez, Durbin, Whitehouse, Schumer, Brown, Reid, and Cardin. He's tied with Patty Murray.
