Giuliani thinks the blind should carry guns
From Fox News(so it must be true)

"Republican presidential front-runner Rudy Giuliani is leaving the door open to allowing the blind and physically disabled to carry guns.

During a town hall meeting in northwestern New Hampshire Tuesday night, Giuliani told a former police officer blinded in the line of duty and concerned about the former New York City mayor's stance on guns, "You don't have to worry."

"You have a constitutional right, that is protected, to bear and carry arms. It is the Second Amendment," Giuliani told about 200 attendees in a high school gymnasium in Lebanon. "If someone disagrees with that, you have to get the Constitution changed."

He added that he believes in only three restrictions for those wishing to exercise their Second Amendment right — a previous criminal record, a history of mental instability and an age requirement.

...
During his two terms as mayor, Giuliani supported strict gun laws at both the local and national level and advocated the federal assault weapons ban that expired in 2004. But as a presidential candidate, he vows to protect Second Amendment rights at the federal level allowing state and local authorities to determine their own "reasonable" restrictions.

1. None of the gun-owning Repubs trust him.
He's just making a sad attempt to backpedal on his previous statements.

3. Yeah he has that problem in a lot of areas
This might end up being the election that both bases are pissed off about. Hillary vs. Rudy.

4. It's not the carrying of them by the blind that would the problem
Edited on Fri Oct-26-07 08:46 AM by RGBolen

The problem is of course when the blind decide they want to start shooting.

7. Oh my...
I don't think blind people would be wise to wield guns, and the US Constitution does specifically state "well-regulated militia" so I'm assuming that means regulating and prohibiting blind individuals from shooting.

10. What you say makes sense.
I'm sure it's been debated endlessly, but I've not heard of that particular clause being used as a definition of the qualifications for gun ownership.

If you can qualify to be in the militia, broad term wise, you're in.
That would even allow wheel chair bound individuals, not just the tabs, to own firearms.

Interesting idea.

9. Is this really an issue?
Do the blind even want guns? I'm sure you can find some blind shill to say he needs one but does that mean the blind are clamoring for Glocks and AK's? Even if they are are gun dealers turning them away?

Texas legislature turns blind eye on gun safety

Texas' love affair with guns got a shot in the arm last week when Governor Rick Perry signed into law House Bill 308, expanding the rights of blind game hunters to include the use of laser sighting devices to slaughter their prey. The Bill was sponsored by Representative Edmund Kuempel and passed both houses of the legislature unanimously. In fact, during both the House and Senate hearings on the "blind hunter bill," there was no opposition.

Testifying in favor of allowing visually impaired hunters to use laser sighting devices were representatives from the Exotic Wildlife Association, the Texas State Rifle Association and the Coalition of Texans with Disabilities.

Until now, laser sighting devices and the use of lights has been expressly prohibited in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Hunting Code because the use of such equipment serves to stun the stalked game and gives an unfair advantage to the hunter.

Representative Edmund Kuempel issued the following statement on numerous occasions: "This opens up the fun of hunting to additional people, and I think that's great. I've seen this on TV before, when they're (blind people) taking target practice."

15. This is really a dumb idea
Texas Parks and Wildlife's Commission (who have all been appointed by Republicans at this point and are not known for their liberal positions) even thought this was a stupid idea and passed a regulation forbidding it (as well as internet hunting- don't laugh- someone wanted to be able to offer hunts to people across the country, over the internet). They base a lot of their decisions on what TPWD leadership recommends and believe me, this will be nothing but a headache.

and is desperately trying to dig himself out from under the crap he's supported in the past.

I would LOVE to see a Richardson vs. Guliani matchup...
