Fox News puts kibosh on McCain 'Woodstock' campaign ad.
Make of this what you will.

Fox News Channel confirms that it has ordered the campaign of Senator John McCain to cancel its new ad featuring a clip of him at last Sunday’s debate, which was sponsored by Fox News. The news network prohibits candidates from using debate clips in their political advertisements.

The spot uses a debate clip liberally, highlighting Mr. McCain’s dig at Senator Hillary Clinton for pushing a $1 million earmark for a museum commemorating Woodstock and his quip that he was “tied up” during the concert – that is, tied in up North Vietnam as a prisoner of war.

And the spot prominently features the Fox News logo in the corner of the screen. Of course, campaigns use debate clips from time to time to the anger of the networks, and they do not tend to mind the extra publicity these clips bring to their ads. But Fox News officials say they are taking this matter seriously.

The advertisement is in full rotation as of today, and lawyers for Mr. McCain say they are within their “fair use” rights to use the clip of their candidate talking for 19 seconds of a 90-minute debate. Fox’s lawyers say “fair use” does not apply to commercial use and that Mr. McCain’s campaign has no substantive legal defense.

5. Just saw a clip on Hardball
McCain talks about being "tied up" in Vietnam during the Woodstock concert. The camera shows Rudy Giuliani laughing at the joke. Where was Rudy during Woodstock? Certainly not in Vietnam.

6. If Dems were like Repukes we would be swiftboating McCain for getting captured
We'd be airing attack ads accusing him of running scared into the arms of the enemy and surrendering rather than fighting.

But we're not like the Republickers, are we?

As far as I know, McCain did not get captured because he was a coward or a traitor-- though that's the sort of thing Republickers would say about someone.

But Democrats do not and should not resort to such things.

But if you meet a stranger in an elevator and tell them that you're a Republican and you hate John McCain because he surrendered to the enemy rather than fighting for his country... well, they can hardly blame US now, can they?

7. I wish Vietnam would have kept him.
he is a raving lunatic who would cause WW3 if Bush doesn't. I wonder what type of sick actions he took part in while in Vetnam.

8. Why they don't like McCain
He thinks. It's not always productive of good policy, but he occasionally thinks. They like Rudy & Mitt cause there's no pretense of engaging reality. McCain is an actual conservative, but as such occasionally slips into fits of decency and fair play. You just can't trust a man like that.

9. Fox is all about money, not politics.
Edited on Thu Oct-25-07 04:59 PM by Basileus Basileon
They have an insane political bent, but that isn't because they're all True Believers; they're mostly too smart there to actually believe in Wars on Christmas and the like. They saw an enormous, unserved market and filled it. They're not pushing propaganda on anyone; they're delivering to conservative fuckwits what they eagerly want to see--"You are right."

Be a conservative candidate who throws red meat at the mouth-breathers? They'll love you to pieces. Dare to infringe on their copyrights? Fuck you, you thief.
