3. Happy that the winds have died down, but that's all. Still very hot and smoky.
I'll be truly happy when the fires are out, the president is gone, light rain starts falling and everyone has a place to live again.

43. I agree with BW here
I am happy my house is okay.

That my family is okay.

That we never lost the electricity.

And that we have good food to eat and are not out on a slab of asphalt at Qualcomm.

Bush will be here tomorrow.

That makes Gilligan cry.

8. My family's all safe.
I'm on the coast just south of the border. Now that the winds have died down, we're finally able to start cleaning up the layer of gritty gray ash on everything.

My daughter is above it all, safe up Santa Cruz; my son is in LA, but says he is at no risk. Our hearts go out to those who have been displaced and have lost property.

Let's at least hope that any reconstruction is mandated to be more environmentally friendly and less flammable... though that's probably pie-in-the-sky wishful thinking.

12. I'm happy
that the area I live in wasn't in danger from the fires. The air is horrible, it's hard to breath and the sun has the funny look but I'm not suffering like those in the danger areas so I feel very lucky.

15. Father-in-law in San Diego just e-mailed me, they're safe
They live in Bonita. His wife, their autistic son, and dog, bugged out as soon as the fire got close to them. He and his older son stayed to try save what ever the could. He said the hillside opposite their house burned but the fire fighters contained it about two streets away. They got the go-ahead to stay in their house.

I'm in northern CA, recovering from congestive heart failure that happened a month and a half ago. This week I've been slowly building stamina walking 1/4 to 1/2 a mile. today I went into SF and walked up to North Beach then back through Chinatown to Union Square and on to the Transbay terminal. my pedometer read a little over five miles when I got home. I don't feel tire, my heart didn't send scary messages. And I got home to good news from my family in San Diego. oh the weather up here is very nice and my wife will be home in an hour. life is good.

16. I am happy up here in Placer county that
we don't have any smoke and we have a brilliant blue sky and warm indian summer day and I am off work today. I am also happy that Condi got blood stained hands pushed in her face and it was captured on film. Tomorrow I will be back to being grossly unhappy about those who lost their homes in the fires and the state of our morally bankrupt government, the idiot gubernator, and the ongoing demise of America as we once knew it. :hi:

18. Safe in Ocean Beach, San Diego. My kids are in East County...
and were on alert for two days. The fire never got that close thank goddess. All is well with them.
We are pretty insulated from the fire zone. Right on the ocean with the whole city/county to the east of us. Just a bit of smoke in the air and some ash.
My heart goes out to all that lost in this tragedy. We were lucky out here.

I am working on copper piping for a bathroom remodel. If I don't get our master bedroom shower done soon Ali is going to give me some tough love.. I don't think it will be as fun as it might sound.. and most certainly it won't be happy.

I live in the Southbay section of Los Angeles a few blocks from CaliforniaPeggy. I think we are in the safest section of Los Angeles from anything but a huge earthquake.

My son's school had a bake sale for San Diego fire relief today - the cookies were 50cents... they ran out of cookies (they had 500 or so).

They are ratcheting up their cookie stock up for tommorrow!

38. Once upon a time (83-92), I owned a condo at Foothill & Stevens Creek on ...
... Queens Oak Court. Rancho San Antonio was my favorite place to walk 5-8 miles ... about 2-3 times a week. I'd start at the "horse" parking lot and, after loopin around, finish at the farm and enjoy the animules. I miss it.

41. Former NoCal, now in AZ
My son was evac'd from Ramona while visiting his g/f. They are safe and the g/f's house is ok. My daughter lives in NoCal and is ok.

I feel for all those in the fire areas. I lived through the Stanislaus Complex Fire in 1987 and was evacuated for over a week. I would never wish that agnst on anyone. Yes, possessions are only things but they also create memories. When you lose many of those memories, it can have a tremendous impact on family life.

Cherish what you have and keep the memories in your hearts forever.
