Ban Smoking Tobacco
Marijuana, meth, cocaine, legalize it!

:smoke:

Or are all anti-smoking people consistent across the board?

The fact that we even have this smilie here: :smoke: makes me wonder.

1. Honestly, if weed were legal, I'd have given up tobacco long ago.
:sigh:

2. I'd be all over that - if you didn't include meth
Meth has got to be the worst drug of the bunch.... I'd rather be addicted to tobacco or heroin than meth.

4. That'd be understandable if the OP included heroin rather than coke.
I believe I've seen monkeys who once addicted to cocaine, chose cocaine over food, to the point where they starved to death.

Legalize pot. Nothing more.

13. You'd legalize heroin then?
I know how bad meth is. I've snorted it, smoked it, eaten it, and dissolved it in cokes from fast food restaurants. I got sick and tired of being sick and tired, and got over it. I don't have links, but I've read that heroin addicts are MUCH MORE LIKELY to go back to their old ways than meth addicts who've kicked.

16. Yes, w/ a doctor's prescription
and 3 layers of help offered.

There is a genetic component to addiction that is just recently being looked into.

17. I know about the genetic component and the predisposition to addiction.
I'm curious as to what your "3 layers of help" could do for a genetic predisposition, and what it/they would change.

18. Are you aware
that the UK legalizes heroin for its addicts? It's the maintenance and not the addiction. Witness the U.S. maintenance of an addiction far more profound than heroin: nicotine.

I was trying to enjoy a meal at an outdoor cafe recently when someone crossed the street and started blowing marijuana smoke at me. Your rights end at my nose!!!

6. Good one!
Your post on the other thread cracked me up, plumes of smoke surrounding us, indeed.

And I wonder, how many of the anti-plumes/fumes of tobacco feel the same way about plumes/fumes of even nastier shit. LOL.

10. Obviously
I am not for banning smoking. I generally agree with most other classifications of illegal drugs with the exception of marijuana, although I have no desire to use it. There would have to be some strong regulation of marijuana if it was legalized of course.

11. Second-hand smoke from marijuana
could give you cooties, or worse. Or maybe not, because smoking things other than tobacco are copacetic. Second-hand smoke from those other things bestow life-sustaining and healing minerals, vitamins, and waters upon the recipient.

14. my meaning
about marijuana being regulated is that it is a hallucinogen and should be regulated as to when it can be used and not used while operating moving vehicles and heavy equipment. Second hand smoke wouldn't bother me much as long as I could get some air, heh. However since second hand smoke from cigarettes has such a bad connotation now, I doubt smoking weed in public would be considered acceptable by many.

19. No... I'll tell you. When cigarette smokers have to worry about going to jail like pot smokers do
then they can start to bitch about "fascism". :eyes:

Should pot be legalized? Abso-fucking-lutely. Does that mean people should be allowed to smoke it wherever they want? Er, no. Cities and towns regulate WHERE people can smoke cigarettes. That's not "oppression". So you have to step out to the curb to light up. Waaaah.

I used to smoke pot, back in my reckless youth. I'm glad I smoked that instead of cigarettes, which I'm certain would have been WAY more of a bitch to quit. But back when I did smoke pot, if someone had said "We want to make it legal- you can smoke it outside or in the privacy of your own home, but not in bars or restaurants".. would I have gone "Fuck no, fascist! How dare you anti-pot people tell me where and when I can light up"? No. Such a policy would be far saner than what we have now, and frankly protecting people in enclosed indoor public spaces from second hand smoke- of any kind- is a legitimate civic pursuit.

Pot should be legalized, regulated, and taxed. Meth is a horrible drug, but frankly right now we spend most of the $40 Billion "drug war" budget going after pot smokers. Maybe if we approached harder drugs, like meth, cocaine, etc. as a health problem and not a law enforcement one, adopting a harm reduction strategy like the Netherlands has, we could make a dent in the meth epidemic... particularly if we used the billions we spend now going after dangerous pot addicts like Willie Nelson and the late Carl Sagan, and funneled it into treatment on demand. Into fact-based education instead of lies that tell kids if they smoke pot they'll get date raped and their testicles will fall off. (Followed on the heels of an "abstinence only" message which tells kids with a straight face that NO ONE should have sex until marriage, when just about everyone does)
