D-Day: War's over, man. Wormer dropped the big one. Bluto: Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! Otter: Germans? Boon: Forget it, he's rolling. Bluto: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough... (thinks hard) Bluto: the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go! (runs out, alone; then returns) Bluto: What the fuck happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer... Otter: Dead! Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part. Bluto: We're just the guys to do it. D-Day: Let's do it. Bluto: LET'S DO IT!

Why do some of you seem to be giving up on our country? On politics? Why do people say "Screw this, I'm not voting." ? Why do people think there is no way to overcome the corruption of corporate money on the election process? Isn't this the United States of America? Wasn't this country founded by people who stood up to an all-powerful monarchy and Declared its Independence from it? Don't we have the same power to affect change in our government as our forefathers before us?
Folks, this meme that "we are powerless and the system is unfixable" has to stop. "Live free or die" is not just a saying, its a way of life. We can never, ever, ever stop trying to fix the problems our country faces. Giving up solves NOTHING. Not voting solves NOTHING. Every time we are given a choice for leaders of our country, its our job to pick the most liberal choice, because we are liberals. It doesn't matter if that person is not as liberal as WE ARE. All that matters is that the person is the MOST liberal choice possible. We are the ones that make the choices. And when I say "We", I don't mean DemocraticUnderground.com. I mean all Democrats across the entire party, nationwide. And the Democratic Party is not 100% Liberal. Its part liberal, part moderate, and even a tiny bit conservative leaning moderate. I wish it wasn't, I wish it was 100% liberal, but its not.
Solutions to the epic problems facing this country will not be fixed by one administration. Or even two or three. The Republican Party was able to think long term, and grew their grassroots to take over back in 92. We then did it in 2006. We can do it at the presidential level just like we do it at the congressional level. Raise good candidates. Everything starts local, folks. Everything. People don't just become Senators and Representatives. They start out local, in town politics. Heck, even Ned Lamont here in CT was involved in his town for many years before he tried to step in directly at the national level against LIEberman.
Bitching and whining about how the current Dem presidential candidates suck won't solve anything. Not voting for them won't either. I don't care what you say, none of these candidates (including Hillary) are anywhere near as bad as a Republican. And we can make sure in future elections, the crop gets better and better (meaning, more liberal, less centrist) by making that change happen locally and grow nationally.
Vote (D) in 2008. It will shut out the Republicans from power, and cause a fundamental leftward shift in American politics. Then work hard for 2012/2016.
