I have watched Amy Goodman on democracy now for the last 3 nights. Her right side is dropping. The first day I saw it, I thought she maybe had dentist work, and had too much novacane (spelling?).
But 3 days later she still has droop. did she have a stroke ?
13. Is this true? That's what happened to Ralph Nader . . .
Nader fell asleep on an airplane .... with his cheek against the glass pane of the window -- and supposedly it was very cold. It didn't go away in a few weeks and I think is only recently much less noticeable!!! He had a bad case of BP!!
I've known 3 people over the past 4 years who have had Bell's Palsy. Symptoms don't last a week or two.... more like a month or more. In these 3 people, it was attributed to stress, either at work or in their home life (2 were retirees). All 3 returned to 'normal' within 4-6 weeks and all 3 altered their lifestyle somewhat before full recovery.
I wish the best to Amy Goodman and hope she has a speedy recovery.
There's a lot that isn't known about it. Roughly 40 out of every 100,000 people will come down with Bell's at some point in their life. Most cases (about 90%) will have a complete recovery within 6 months. Others will only have a partial recovery of varying degrees. Relapses are not uncommon. There is no test for Bell's and no cure. Treatment consist of anti viral drugs for about a week at the onset of an attack.
In my case I have had about an 85 to 90 percent recovery. I continue to have problems that vary from day to day. In my case there may be a genetic factor since my grand mother had Bell's which I did not know about until I came down with it. I just knew she had a problem with one side of her face. Once I came down with it I recognized it because it's effect on her face was almost identical to mine.
14. I've had Bell's Palsy, and it is not painful. Just a twitch now and then on the side of the face.
I was working 18 hour days in the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard trying to get us out and on seatrials when I had it. I was told to go back to my barracks and sleep for 2 days and try eating 3 meals a day for a change!
Amy's schedule is exhaustive: she leaves the firehouse and dashes across the country at least weekly to speak these days, plus she writes all her own copy. . . you know, she can't have Zinn on every single day!
also a journalist, when he was in his early 30's. He got religion about health after that and does a lot to avoid stress now. But he still has the residual 'droop' on one side of his face. It makes him seem more serious than he actually is. Susceptibility may run in families--a couple others close to us have had it.
