How much power can the wind generate for $454 billion
I was just watching a youtube video by Mike Gravel, and it got me thinking. He suggests breaking our dependency on oil by building wind generators.

That got me thinking. What if we'd taken the $454 billion we've spent on the war, and put it into alternative energy? We would have kicked ass on the Middle Eastern countries without firing a shot.

Our electrical needs would be met for decades to come, and we'd be out of other people's business. Sure, we'd still be in a deficit, but a kinder. gentler deficit.

Sadly, the money has already been spent, and we still don't have energy solutions.

Do I have to do all the thinking in this country???

2. And how many fuel-efficient cars could have been boughten...
...if a tax-deduction, comparable to the Hummer deduction the GOPers made into law early on in The Pricktator's reign, were enacted? Even a fraction of this $454,000,000,000 would result in hundreds of thousands of new hybrids and other fuel-efficient cars being put on the road in the last 6 years.

But then, we're just engaging in 20/20 hindsight now, aren't we?...:sarcasm:

3. Just take half the war tab for wind generated power
and put the other half into decent education. Lots of problems solved.

5. We can do much better, but Gravel is too optimistic
In the debate, he said we could achieve "oil independence in five years, carbon independence in ten years."

I'm all for more alternative energy where possible, but oil will not be replaced so easily. He would gain more credibility with me, but probably even fewer votes, if he proposed telling the American people the full truth about peak oil: our economy and lifestyle is on measured time, and a decline is inevitable. It is time to begin changing the way we produce food and rely so heavily on cheap transportation and over-consumption of resources.

6. Take it even further...
and knock the Pentagon and "security" budgets down by about half and we've got half a trillion a year to spend on good stuff people might actually want.
