Will Rep. Udall or others put forth their Resolution this week against Rush?: |
Edited on Mon Oct-01-07 07:35 AM by rodeodance
Also There was a post that talked of a letter by Sen. Reid--he was circulating. Something about writing to Clear Channel to condemn the Rush statements. But I can not find it. Also, there was another congressperson that said he was going to put out a Resolution in the House. But I forget who.Anyway? > ................................. > Forum Name General Discussion > Topic subject Udall to introduce ‘Rush’ resolution on Monday. > Topic URL http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1934543#1934543 > 1934543, Udall to introduce ‘Rush’ resolution on Monday. > Posted by kpete on Fri Sep-28-07 05:32 PM > > Udall to introduce ‘Rush’ resolution on Monday. > > On Monday, Rep. Mark Udall (D-CO) will introduce a resolution condemning Rush Limbaugh’s comments that troops who support withdrawal from Iraq are “phony soldiers.” In a dear colleague letter, Udall says the resolution will honor “all Americans serving in the Armed Forces” while “condemning” Limbaugh’s “unwarranted attack.” > http://thinkprogress.org/2007/09/28/udall-to-introduce-rush-resolution-on-monday / > .............................. > Forum Name General Discussion > Topic subject Udall letter here: > Topic URL http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1934543#1934756 > 1934756, Udall letter here: > Posted by rodeodance on Fri Sep-28-07 05:56 PM > http://tpmelectioncentral.com/2007/09/exclusive_dem_rep_to_introduce_house_resolution_condemning_rush_limbaugh_on_monday.php > > > ......Either way, it's a key development, because it has the potential to move this from a rhetorical battle to a legislative one, which would keep the story going. Jesse MacBeth." Limbaugh further asserted that "Media Matters had the transcript, but they selectively choose what they want to make their point." To support this claim, Limbaugh purported to air the "entire" segment in question from the September 26 broadcast of his show. In fact, the clip he then aired had been edited. Excised from the clip was a full 1 minute and 35 seconds of the 1 minute and 50 second discussion that occurred between Limbaugh's original "phony soldiers" comment and his reference to MacBeth, the full audio of which can be heard here. > > http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070929/ap_po/democrats_limbaugh;_ylt=AnwVmrV1fQKWW3o.IYg4oSis0NUE > Dems criticize Limbaugh's comments > > By HOLLY RAMER, Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 5 minutes ago > > CLAREMONT, N.H. - Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards criticized Rush Limbaugh on Friday for referring to some members of the military as "phony soldiers." > > For his part, Limbaugh said he was referring only to one soldier recently convicted of lying about his service. > > Edwards and the campaign of fellow Democrat Chris Dodd took issue with the radio talk show host's characterization of Iraq war veterans who have spoken out against the war. In a single moment on his show, Limbaugh managed to question the patriotism of men and women in uniform who have put their lives on the line and many who died for his right to sit safely in his air conditioned studio peddling hate. On August 19th, The New York Times published an op-ed by seven members of the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division critical of George Bush's Iraq policy. Two of those soldiers were killed earlier this month in Baghdad. Does Mr. Limbaugh dare assert that these heroes were 'phony soldiers'? Mr. Limbaugh owes an apology to everyone who has ever worn the uniform of our country, and an apology to the families of every soldier buried in Arlington National Cemetery. He is an embarrassment to his Party, and I expect the Republicans who flock to his microphone will now condemn this indefensible statement." > > > Wes Clark get's into the act, from Jon Soltz diary at Daily Kos: > > UPDATE: If you want to help me get on Rush's show, please click here to send Rush a letter. Does Rush Limbaugh really want to look General Oden in the eye and call him a phony? … And while we’re at it, let’s pay attention to the 72% of american troops serving in iraq who also think the US should exit the country within the next year and more than one in four who say the troops should leave immediately according to the Zogby poll. 1. I Was Against The Move-On Censure And Against This As Well |
Edited on Mon Oct-01-07 07:38 AM by KharmaTrain
One of the most valuable freedoms that still remains is freedom of speech...even if it's hatred or stupid, when you start passing resolutions you're starting down a slippery slope. There's probably no on here who despises Rushbo more than I do...he cost me a job...but wasting time on this makes Democrats look as silly and petty as Repugnicans.
I'd far prefer that his words are repeated and publicized...just like his Michael J. Fox sliming was...cause that helped us win the Senate. Let this scumbag hang himself...just give him the rope. If anyone should be "censured", it should be Mark Mays of Cheap Channel who signs his paycheck and has turned our public airwaves into a cesspool of hatred and intolerance. |

3. Two Wrongs Aren't Right |
Edited on Mon Oct-01-07 07:52 AM by KharmaTrain
I'd prefer a payback at the ballot box and the pocketbook. Why give oxyboy a chance to be a "victim" (which the corporate media is sure to portray him)...look how the MoveOn censure turned into lots of donations. Hell, I made several donations during the past couple weeks and glad they have put on more spots. A censure isn't gonna yank this asshat off the air and may even pump up his ratings with those who want to hear what he says next. Let's be a little smarter here and just let his words speak for themselves and just keep hammering him...just like what's happening with O'Reilly. Nothing would make me feel better than to see this gasbag become irrelevant.
:hi: Cheers... On Edit: This by no means I felt what MoveOn did was wrong...just the censure. |
