At the time, it seems they were hinting at some great long-term strategy. Now we're getting all these 5/4 conservative decisions.

Tons and tons of additional dry powder to be used when something really really super urgently important comes up.
(You'd think Bush v Gore would have taught them what was important, but apparently it takes a lot of lessons to reach some of our Democrats.)
