Dems needed to say it before Bloomberg did - "America is really in trouble"...
People in America are just beginning to 'wake up' to the horrible mess we are in and the pain that is about to be visited upon them as a result of the 6 years of Bush disaster.

Look at the polls --Bush is at historic lows(29% approval) and Congress is even lower(23% in one poll). Three of four Americans now believe we are on the wrong track as a country.

Many Dems are fearful of being painted by Repubs as 'doom and gloom' peddlers if they tell how dire the situation really is. However, the people are ready for the truth, and if Repubs take that position they will have to promote an 'everything is fine' meme to counter it --and the American people know that is a lie.

Pelosi and Reid need to have a direct address to the American people saying how much trouble we are in and what needs to be done right now, today, to begin addressing the most pressing problems. And they need to ask the American people hold Repubs accountable if they block our efforts to address these problems.

At the same time, they need to make people aware that we cannot fix a dysfunctional government as long as it is wrapped in three layers of secrecy --and that Congressional investigations are essential to returning the government to the people and out of the hands of special interest groups.

If the American people ever get a whiff of a real change in Washington that will put the focus back on them and their interests Dems would have to erect fences around the polling places to keep voters from electing them in a landslide.

I still believe that the American people can handle the truth if those in power are willing to speak it directly to them. They are willing to sacrifice if they know the sacrifice will make a difference and not just further line the pockets of special interest groups.

Nothing less will put an end to the downward spiral we are in right now. More pain is on the way and we need to give people a roadmap of what we are doing to deal with it. We need to be the party of truth with a plan. Wake up Democrats!

1. ... afraid to be "doom peddlers" and afraid to "stick it to Dimson"
What the fuck? I didn't vote for my phobic old grandma last November, I voted for a party with some balls to stand up to that little shitwad in DC and stop all the fucking carnage - financially, domestically and abroad!

2. Great Post! America is in VERY serious trouble and pretending.......
and propagandizing that it is NOT will ONLY make our eventual collapse even worse and more unbearable. I expect nothing from our current congress as it is washington d.c. business as usual.

3. The cow is out of the barn over the hill and ready to go off the cliff....
but most haven't even looked in the barn to see that the cow is gone.

I can't think of anything clever or uplifting to say. And, my disgust meter has been off the dial for so long...well....nothing else to say.

5. Shhh...we don't want to blow our certain landslide victory in '08 by staging political theater
like oversight, and ending the war. America can't stomach a political three ring circus right now, we can't afford to ruffle any feathers.

7. If the shoe were on the other foot, Repubs would be making Dems defend their disasters every day....
Dems need to put Repubs on the defensive and make them choose whether to defend Bush and his policies or acknowledge their responsibility for the disasters the have visited on the American people.

Who cares if the Repubs pitch a fit? That will tell you that the Dems are on the right track if all the Repubs have meltdowns on the MSM all the time.

8. Dems have been saying it. Bloomberg just gets more attention because he is (was) a Repig
When Dems say it, its treason. When Repigs or conservatives say it, its dissent and perfectly ok.

10. Al Gore's been saying it for quite a while
Edited on Wed Jun-20-07 01:25 PM by BattyDem
He even wrote an entire book on the subject. (To anyone who hasn't read "The Assault on Reason" yet: do it ... NOW!)

Unfortunately, Gore's a Democrat, so when he says it, he's ignored by the media. Bloomie is a Repug (well ... not anymore) and his words are repeated by every talking head in the business. :eyes:

13. Forward this to Pelosi and Reid
Jonathan Turley, Lawyer and Constitutional Scholar, speaking on Keith Olbermann's show on June 19, with regard to the Congress reining in this rogue pResident:

Regarding our AWOL Congress:

They've got to put something behind their rhetoric. They have to start to get tough, and to start withholding funds, withholding confirmations, using those powers that the Framers gave them to protect their own institution.

Among the politically disillusioned are both Democrats and Republicans, not to mention Independents. The Democrats can shape up, do what they were elected to do, and possibly create an eleventh-hour coalition of the disillusioned. Or...they can continue to dance with corporate interests and see a horse of a different color take birth in America. And they, the Dems, should not smugly assume that only they will sit in the saddle. We the People can choose which horse to ride!

"America's in trouble--and when America's in trouble, the world's in trouble." Are he and Bloomberg just stealing ideas from each other, or are they seriously in cahoots? Hmmm.

15. Talk Is Cheap -- They Need To Impeach
It's the "business as usual" poll number that is the bell tolling for Dem chances in '08. The strategerists and consultants have nothing left to bring to the table, as the public/electorate is moving beyond manipulation's reach.

Anti-bush/GOP sentiment will wane with each day they are left unconfronted, unaccused. The perception of Dems as feckless and weak will rise conversely.

Their side only needs it to be close enough to steal. Without impeachment, I see no reason not to expect a 3rd theft.
