Dick Cheney.Remember when Republicans were so hot to trot on "law and order"? When they would parrot slogans such as "commit the crime, then do the time."
That's no doubt why President George W. Bush appointed "law and order" Judge Reggie Walton to the federal bench in 2001. Walton believes that if you break the law, you deserve the punishment.
Yes, as it reads on the official bio page for Judge Walton, "Judge Reggie B. Walton assumed his position as a United States District Judge for the District of Columbia on October 29, 2001, after being nominated to the position by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the United States Senate."
Bush also appointed Walton to a panel to curb prison rape. And Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Roberts, a Bush appointee, placed Judge Walton on the secretive FISA court just this year.
Yes indeed, Judge Walton has got all his Bush "law and order" bonafides.
So it does appear a bit hypocritical that Dick Cheney is now proclaiming that Scooter Libby should walk away free from his criminal verdict. (So does the man who acts on "Law and Order," Fred Thompson. Well the man can act, but his respect for law and order apparently stops when the script is finished.)
Of course, Cheney is not being hypocritical without a motive. Obviously, if Scooter actually goes to jail, he might decide that the Mob bosses of the GOP abandoned him and start singing like a bird. And the tune he would be warbling would have lyrics about how Dick Cheney was the one orchestrating the outing of a covert CIA operative.
