Once you say he made one bold decision - tax hikes - A bold decision would have been to cut the unnecessary military spending. Both he and the congress at the time worked to build a deficit even with that tax(which many say was not a fair or evenly distributed tax, although someone always says that)
The point is we can never know when they are tossing the crap(which the all do) to get elected and when they are compromising on bills to get work done(which they all do). But compromising on core values of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, this is the test of our times. This is the very simple question we need to ask. Who is going to roll back the erosion of our rights? Who will rebuild the walls that are meant to be there separating the three branches of government and the free press? Who is going to insure that the free press is not just free by non-monopolized?
These are not fine points of debate, yet I have yet to hear any of them delineate their positions on this. For me it would go along way toward defining who I feel comfortable with as President of this country.
