(I'll add the transcript when it's online)

Has Cooper copied Keith's "Worst Persons" and turned it into his new "Ridiculist" segment?

If you can stomach it, watch O'Lielly taking credit for the censorship here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdVwcJ4wMLY

1. Do you believe in evolution?
If Cooper gains any traction with this, he could be a foot in the door of the MSM for the
kind of calm right-wing lie busting that we usually only hear from Rachel Maddow. If he gets
any kind of support from the public for doing this, and CNN smells a viewer spike, it'll
become a mainstay.

We could do worse than stage a massive email and write-in to CNN supporting Cooper for this.

2. Transcript....
OOPER: So we started a new segment on the program this week, a nightly effort to point out hypocrisy, double talk, stuff that just is downright ridiculous. We call it the RidicuList. So who's on the list tonight? Well, it's the TV network PBS for their claims about why they edited Tina Fey.

Tina Fey received the prestigious Mark Twain prize for American humor at the Kennedy Center last week. In her acceptance speech she thanked many people, including Sarah Palin, who Fey obviously imitated a lot during the 2008 presidential campaign.

But what viewers and people saw on TV was very different from what people at the awards ceremony actually saw. So here's what Tina Fey had to say about Palin and conservative women during the awards ceremony.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

TINA FEY, COMEDIAN/WRITER: I would be a liar and an idiot if I didn't thank Sarah Palin for helping get me here tonight. My partial resemblance and her crazy voice are the two luckiest things that have ever happened to me.

And you know, politics aside, the success of Sarah Palin and women like her is good for all women, except of course, for those who will end up paying for their own rape kit and stuff. But for everybody else, it's a win-win. Unless you're a gay woman who wants to marry your partner of 20 years, whatever. But for most women, the success of conservative women is good for all of us. Unless you believe in evolution. You know what? Actually, I take it back. The whole thing's a disaster.

All kidding aside, I'm so proud to represent American humor.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

COOPER: All right. On Sunday night PBS viewers watching the pretaped event didn't hear any of that. This is what viewers heard instead.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

FEY: I would be a liar and an idiot if I didn't thank Sarah Palin for helping get me here tonight. My partial resemblance and her crazy voice are the two luckiest things that have ever happened to me.

All kidding aside, I'm so proud to represent American humor.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

COOPER: All right. Producers cut out approximately 33 seconds of Fey's jokes about Palin and conservative women. They insist, however, politics or fear of criticism had nothing to do with it.

One of the executive producers of the program told "The Washington Post" that they trimmed parts of Fey's acceptance speech, not because of content but due to time. The ceremony ran 19 minutes too long, and they said a lot of it was trimmed.

That may be so, but it's hard to believe they would choose to trim from one of the main winner's speeches, especially considering they just happened to cut the controversial stuff out. It's fine if they wanted to avoid controversy. I understand that. But they should just admit it. Pretending it had nothing to do with politics, that just sounds ridiculous, and that earns a spot on tonight's RidicuList.

12. 19 minutes too long??? Bullshit.
I have noticed how PBS is shortening their shows, paricularly 1 hour or more, to get in moreprogramming and self promotion. They are cutting at least up to 15 minutes off in an hour.
Ridiculous. :wtf:

23. lost down the memory hole,. . .
good thing they don't yet have the full 1984 system of removing all records of the event! And being cought editing and awards show speach for political reasons is truely sad,. shame on the producers who did this,. they should be fired and bared from working in the media.

3. This reminds me of Rachel Maddow's segment called
Debunktion Junction. I like the idea on both parts. Anderson may be the great hope for CNN, and he's certainly nice on the eyes.

I'd be interested in watching, or at least tuning my TV to the channel it's on to give him a ratings point.

9. Details are available here...
On his show's blog: http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/

It's not as consistently good as Keith or Rachel's shows but he does have some quality moments like this fairly often.

His insistence on proving he's "not taking sides" by using false equivalences can be quite jarring, though.

28. Anderson Cooper does work for CNN
I am sure he has certain , shall we say, constraints. Israel and the republican party yes. Democrats and progressives no. Let's forget the past when CNN was more middle of the road. They are right wing now an d boring beyond words.

15. The state of cable media makes me SICK...
besides the fact that it is more a ratings race and the crap they promote as news is more often NOT; besides the out and out lies and in Fox's case, insanity; besides the fact that their *breaking News is NOT, really; besides the fact that they run so many lines of *information* across the bottom of the screen, fearful that they will miss one iota of information of any kind that no one can read it OR focus on the programs (shout fests?)they are running; besides the fact that it doesn't matter if one station actually attempts to inform you about the latest bullshit from politicians and corporations (Thank you Rachel, Keith, and company) because the people truly needing to hear it never will...and the sheep are just waiting for another bunch of graceless prattle to repeat...

besides all that, with a very few trusted exceptions, the people giving the *news* are incompetent jerks and we can't do one thing about it.

or who is the executive producer?

any way to find out?

I know Bush inundated bureaucracies with cronies, often for purely partisan/ideological reasons, and seem to remember PBS didn't escape that.

anybody out there got a line on this?

... but I have to wonder if Cooper thought he could get away with it what with Keith having discontinued it. And then have to wonder if Anderson's co-opting the bit was one of the reasons that Keith is bringing it back, to reclaim ownership.

40. Shades of Rose Mary Woods...
"The Mystery: At 2:00 A.M., June 17, 1972, five men, including James W. McCord, Jr., who was security chief for Pres. Richard Nixon's reelection committee, were arrested while bugging and burglarizing the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee in the Watergate building complex in Washington, D.C.

"Three days later, Nixon, who was secretly tape-recording all conversations which took place in the Oval Office and in his office in the Executive Office Building, met with his aide H. R. Haldeman to discuss various affairs, including the Watergate break-in. The discussion began at 11:26 A.M. and continued for one hour and 19 minutes.

"In July, 1973, the tape of this meeting was subpoenaed by Archibald Cox, special prosecutor investigating the break-in and its cover-up Nixon resisted the subpoena for four months. On Nov. 21, 1973, Judge John Sirica of the U.S. District Court was informed by Nixon's lawyers, J. Fred Buzhardt and Leonard Garment, that the tape of the June 20, 1972, meeting between Haldeman and Nixon contained an 18 1/2-minute buzz, which obliterated the conversation. According to Haldeman's notes of the conversation, the missing 18 1/2 minutes were the ones in which the Watergate break-in had been discussed. His notes read in part: "What is our counterattack? PR offensive to top this. Hit the opposition w/ their activities.... We should be on the attack for diversion."

"Judge Sirica appointed a panel of six technical experts to study the tape and determine the nature and cause of the mysterious obliteration. In a report submitted to Sirica on Jan. 15, 1974, the panel concluded that the erasure and buzz probably had been produced on the Uher 5000 tape recorder which had been used by Nixon's secretary, Rose Mary Woods, to transcribe the subpoenaed tapes. The panel also stated that the obliteration was the result of at least five separate erasures. Despite further investigation, it remains unknown what Nixon and Haldeman said during the 18 1/2 minutes, as well as who caused the gap.

"Possible Solutions: The most common explanation of mysterious events--UFOs--was quickly discounted in light of the unusually thick security web which surrounded President Nixon at all times. Suspicion fell on Rose Mary Woods, who appeared in court and attempted to take credit for 4 1/2 to 6 minutes' worth of erasure. She claimed to have made "a terrible mistake." While answering a phone call, she had pushed the "record" button instead of the "stop" button while keeping her foot on the advance pedal. Even if one accepts Woods's rather implausible story, over 12 minutes of erasure are left unaccounted for.

"The following people may know what was on the tape: Haldeman and Nixon because it was their conversation; John Ehrlichman, who may have been in the room; Rose Mary Woods, who transcribed the tapes; and presidential assistant Steve Bull, who prepared the tapes for Woods to transcribe.

"And who went over the 18 1/2-minute portion of the tape again and again, between five and nine times, until all that could be heard was buzzing? Gen. Alexander M. Haig, Jr., who replaced Haldeman as Nixon's chief of staff, had his theory. He blamed the gap on "sinister forces." Although Haig has never elaborated on this theory, there seems little doubt that he was correct."

Of course, this time with National Propaganda Radio/TV -- we KNOW who done it...

I guess after the Juan Williams thingamajig, they're scared of losing what little funding they still get.

How disappointing....and scary...that some wackos have PBS editing out controversial jokes by SOMEONE WHO WON THIS AWARD BY MAKING THOSE EXACT SAME TYPES OF POLITICAL JOKES! Ironic, isn't it?

Shame on PBS. I'd withdraw my support...if I were a member. (shame on me for that!)
