WEST POINT, Ga. (WTVM) - A Cartersville, Georgia, man is dead after a construction accident at the Kia site in West Point. Troup County coroner Jeff Cook told News Leader 9 Ollie Tate, 47, was killed Tuesday morning.
Kia human resources manager Randy Jackson said it's a sad day for Tate's immediate family, as well as the Kia family. According to Jackson, Tate was working for a subcontractor and erecting steel around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday. He was taken to West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange where he was pronounced dead an hour later.
Specific details of the accident are not being released at this time. The cause is being investigated by Kia and OSHA. Before Tuesday's accident, there had been no safety mishaps at the site.
Tate has family in Columbus, and Jackson expressed deep sorrow from the company. He said Kia is doing everything they can to help the Tate family during this time.
