GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Grand Island paramedics responded Monday after a man fell from a roof and was impaled on a pipe.
According to authorities, the man was at 710 W. Pleasant View Drive when he fell through the roof around 8:45 a.m.
Paramedics on the scene advised dispatchers to put St. Francis Medical Center personnel on alert that the case was a “full trauma” because an inch-and-a-half-wide pipe impaled the man from the pelvic area to the upper abdomen.
A man, who identified himself as the supervisor on the roofing job, but didn’t give his name, said workers had removed the shingles and plywood from part of the roof because the roof had been leaking. The plywood base isn’t always removed when new shingles are laid, he said.
The injured man fell through an open part of the roof into the home, where he hit a decorative “light post” in the corner. The end of the object was pointed, the supervisor said.
