On Edit to OP: I just looked over at the TV and CNN is playing, in their self-indulgent manner, CNN Presents about the looming energy crisis. While I usually follow this particular documentary series, it's not the actual topic itself that's got my attention today.
You see, a while ago (few weeks), there was an earthquake in the S. Pacific and CNN held their breath awaiting (and hoping for, I'm sure) word whether or not there would be another tsunami on the scale of the Boxing Day tsunami that ravaged the Indian Ocean in 2004. Being a reporter in my own right and purpose, I decided to follow the story on my sites and so I called the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu, Hawaii and spoke with their public liason official myself and asked him whether this particular earthquake had indeed caused a tsunami. He said that although a detection bouy registered a blip, it is a common occurence in the S. Pacific and there was no, nor was there going to be, a tsunami. I politely thanked him, hung up and killed the story.
However, it was less than thirty minutes since news of the earthquake hit that I placed that call. But CNN's Kagan (if I remember correctly, maybe it was Phillips) and Jerris were still talking about a tsunami more than an hour later. Finally, an hour and fifteen minutes after I was told it was nothing, CNN finally sounded the all clear. But you can bet that before they did, they got every available talking head on it they could, maybe even Gupta too talking about the psychological toll on islanders in the region, hell I don't know because I got sick of their stupidity.
Now, I will finally get to the point of this edit which is to say that CNN loves this shit. And, what the hell? Now there's a screen bug in the lower right hand corner dramatically counting down to the second the end of the war between Hezbollah and Israel. Fucking idiots. And they're the best we got? Sheesh.
