Let me make one thing perfectly clear. The American Press was never meant to be your whipping boy. When you do something astoundingly stupid, it is NOT appropriate to turn around and abuse the media because they have the temerity to point it out.
The Press exists in this country because the founding fathers (yeah, you remember them--they're the ones who came up with that rather remarkable document you're so fond of ignoring) meant them to act as a watchdog against the very kind of practices in which you're currently engaged.
You think you have the right to shut them up just because they're actually doing their job and, frankly, that's just another nail in your coffin. Fewer and fewer people are buying into your Big Lie these days...not because of the corporate media you've so far been able to cow into remaining mostly silent, but because the American people, despite what you seem to think about them, are not entirely stupid.
You make the excuse that the New York Times is leaking state secrets to terrorists by printing stories about some of the questionable activities of this administration. The fact is, if the terrorists have use of a larger portion of their brain than the average RW pundit, none of what the NYT reveals will come as any surprise at all.
The rest of the world is rather more informed about your agenda and activities than the American People. But the fact is, you can't bully the foreign press. And since most Americans seem to (wrongly) trust the American corporate media, you think that by shutting them up, you can continue to pull the wool over our eyes.
You're wrong. If you persist on going after the media for doing its job, all you're going to manage to do is piss off the very people who've been taking it easy on you for the past several years. And you're going to feel the sting of some very dangerous pens.
What part of "shall not be abridged" are you failing to grasp? You don't get to tell the press to shut up unless it can be proven to DIRECTLY affect national security. The press doesn't get to inform anyone of troop movements, or of classified battle plans. It DOES, however, have the right and, in truth, the DUTY to inform the American people of unconstitutional actions taken by this administration and allowed by your negligent self.
That's the long and the short of it. I understand that you don't like it. But, see, most Americans WANT a press that does its job. The only ones that don't are part of the backwash who see anything but FOX News as some sort of attack dog out to destroy the American way of life.
The Press is supposed to be a watchdog, not an attack dog. And what they're supposed to be watching is YOU. So, in the name of the American people, I respectfully call upon you to keep your hands off of OUR press. You've already screwed it up enough already.
The press, like the government, belongs to US, not to you. You are a public servant, despite the fact that you're under the impression that you should only be required to serve yourself and your corporate masters.
So sit down, shut up, and go vote to raise the minimum wage, or vote to get us out of the festering stinkhole YOUR party got us into.
Thank you very much,
A True American
