Larry Johnson on Ed Schultz: He knows the SWIFT/ money/terror story.
Edited on Mon Jun-26-06 05:27 PM by Gabi Hayes
And it's a huge ploy by the government to attack the media

from a blurb on one of his stories at Truthout (on media whore Howard Kurtz)

''Larry C. Johnson is CEO and co-founder of BERG Associates, LLC, an international business-consulting firm that helps corporations and governments manage threats posed by terrorism and money laundering. ''
http://www.smirkingchimp.com/article.php?sid=26306&mode=nested&order=0

tracking money is one of the things he DOES for a living, and what he discussed with Schultz today.

he said that revealing the SWIFT connection/US government money tracking program is like telling someone in a hurricane that it's raining outside (he didn't say that, but something similar), that anybody with any familiarity with international financial transactions (especially terrorists) is well aware of it, and that ANY wire transaction, no matter where it takes place, has been digitally monitored for awhile

this is more than infuriating, as the M$M isn't talking about this at all. Why doesn't Tweety, for example, have somebody like Johnson on, who actually WORKS in this area, and knows whereof he speaks?

That Melanie Morgan creature, just on Hardball, was excellent, though, cause she showed the true face of oppression in all its twisted ugliness. She could NOT control the way her mouth twisted about like an eel on a hot plate as she spewed her bile about indicting any reporter/editor from the NYT involved in the story for treason. Funny how she didn't include the Wall Street Journal, which published esseentially the same story.

1. this is an all-out, choreographed attack on the media, and people
like Johnson are needed to defend against this attack, by FAR the most virulent I've seen. Rabid, frothing creeps like Morgan, Peter King, and David Frum are all over the place with this, with very insignificant response, especially from people like Johnson, who are actual experts in the field, both from a financial, AND operational viewpoint, yet they aren't allowed media access to refute this story.

this is fricking IMPORTANT, cause the media don't seem to be too anxious to defend themselves.

I read Keller's limpwad defense here yesterday, and that was the weaniest defense I think anybody could have mustered.

he should have thrown down the gauntlet and apprised the American people of the true stakes: the complete end to freedom of the press

you KNOW that's what they want

5. They sure have their talking points all in a row
Is that all it is...or are they setting up scapegoats when (not if) the next attack slaughters innocent Americans?

6. both, of course....they really DO intend to eliminate all dissent.
how much more obvious can it get? start with the "first amendment zones"

go on to Ari Fleischer's infamous "watch what you say. watch what you do."

they're either very confident, now, or very desperate

you KNOW they focus group the HELL out of every major push they make, and, given the sheeples' apparent ambivalence WRT being spied upon, they must feel that now is a very good time for them to really start going after the M$M.

4. agreed. of course, but the M$M is where most media consumers
are getting their "news," and they're going to see are insane cretins like Rep. King calling for the INDICTMENT of members of the fourth estate for EXPOSING criminal behavior on the part of the government

tell me a greater threat (aside from electronic voting machines) to democracy

was in Plame's class and made that comment about roverers mom's demise being due to seeing how he turned out?

11. I halfway hope that this isn't all puffing and posturing by the
neocons. I really want them to go after the NY Times. It is time to see if the media will actually stand up and fight back. As much as I wish we could take back the media from the right, it is going to be up to the media to finally wake up and do it themselves. Maybe this whole furor will finally make them sit up and take notice that THEY are in jeopardy.
