Is it Possible that they "got to" Fitzgerald
That is he was blackmailed, coerced or even bribed to layoff Rove? Maybe threatened members of his family?

I think that Fitzgerald is a good guy, but the stakes in this are huge and he's up against some of the most powerful men in the world.

Just seems so weird that after this long and this bringing Rove to the G.J. so many times that its just dropped like this.

1. No, remember the investigation is not over
Did you see a press conference from Fitzgerald calling the investigation over. Fitz always
goes for the highest one involved. Since Rove will testify in Libby's trial and since the
investigation is sill going on, then it must effect those above him. Karl Rove was never
the big fish.

2. anything is possible when dealing with the BFEE!
Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 06:19 PM by CountAllVotes
We will likely never know the TRUTH whatever it might be. Sad isn't it? America has been sold out by a pack of criminals! I had a bit of hope with Fitzgerald. Who knows the reality? :grr:

7. Thank that American Traitor Prescott Bush for the scourge of the BFEE!
When will Americans wake up to the horror of the bush family?

3. I think "oh ye of weak faith" applies here.
To some people it was never about getting HEADS. It was about getting JUSTICE. If the interests of justice aren't served by prosecuting a case that's not definitive, don't abuse the system by prosecuting anyway.

Granted, I can't know if anything like that did happen or not, but I can most certainly respond to the "seems so weird" comment. It is never weird for a prosecutor to decline a case of perjury (a notoriously difficult case to prove against Rove's ilk) if he doesn't think it's an airtight case in front of 12 citizens on a jury. If it's weird, it's only because not all prosecutors live up to doing the honorable thing and respecting the responsibility their power gives them.

4. No.
It's notoriously difficult to prosecute someone for leaking the name of a covert agent, and despite Rove's initial denial re speaking to reporters about Plame, his move to correct that, and some damn good lawyering, probably made it difficult to prosecute him for perjury. Fitz decided early on not to pursue the conspiracy angle. I presume this was because he felt it was a loser. This is not a simple, slam dunk case. Never was.

5. You can't prosecute if there is no evidence
If Rove covered his tracks too well, Rove gets away.

6. It's Not Dropped - Not By A Long Shot
It's easy to lose sight of the facts because what we got yesterday was mostly spin. Fitz has not issued a statement that Rove is in the clear. Luskin gave us a tiny excerpt from the letter which he received and parsed out just enough to wrap in a bowl of spin and make it seem like the matter is closed. It is not and I suspect that we'll hear more from Jason Leopold soon. What has happened is that Rove has agreed to provide Fitz with everything he has on Cheney and the deal is that Rove only won't be charged if the material he provides is enough to put Cheney away.

The letter which Luskin excerpted is the written commitment that Fitz won't proceed with the indictment which the GJ provided in exchange for the materials which Rove has provided.

23. Fitz didn't hold a press conference to say
Rove was a possible target; he won't hold one to clear Rove.

We are irrelevant. We don't matter in this case. It is not between Fitzgerald, Rove, and DUers. We did not appoint Fitzgerald, and he did not accept "hero-hood" from us. This is between Fitzgerald and his task, investigating the exposing of a covert CIA agent for any illegality. Rove is tangential, an object involved only insofar as Fitzgerald determines; and we matter significantly less. He will inform the press of public matters, for the sake of propriety and clarity. The status of people involved in his investigation, until a public indictment is filed, is not public.

The letter from Fitzgerald to Luskin is confidential; what was said by Luskin to Rove is confidential. Rove may divulge what he wants, with any claim or demand by us being irrelevant.

How do you know what went on inside the Grand Jury? Fitzgerald has a good professional reputation and I don't see why there is the need to demonize him or imply he is a coward without any facts.

21. Well I don't know
hence the speculation.

And btw, someone can be blackmailed even though they have never done nothing wrong.

Many people might do some less moral things, if it meant saving their children from harm for instance. Or people can be framed and blackmailed for that phony crime, a crime they never comitted.

God knows Bush has comitted many many crimes. Hypothetically, anyone could be framed for some of those crimes, and that same person blackmailed even though they are innocent.

I DO think that Fitz is a good person, but he is facing a powerful and devious foe.

10. Wasn't Fitz
the same guy who got an Illinois Governor and maybe even some Mob guys behind bars? If so, then he's probably fairly well-protected and has super-thick skin. I doubt they got to him and I doubt the investigation is over. We're basing everything on what Rove's Attorney said. Until I hear from Fitz and he officially wraps up the Grand Jury Investigation, I'll assume Rove is still somehow under the spotlight.

12. Yes, they allow him to indict the Chief of Staff of the very powerful
Vice President of the US but they tell him not to indict Karl Rove. Sorry, I don't see it. This investigation is not over and Rove may be being used to bring down an even bigger fish.

17. I thought about that
I think its a very valid point.

Nonetheless, to the Bush family, there is a difference between them going after "Cheyneys man" and them going after "our man".

Plus its possible that Rove has secrets and hence protection that Libby didnt have.

Maybe a mysterious car wreck, or some odd accident. That would have been too obvious. Pressure is what I think.

16. Fitzgerald never existed.
He is a hologram. Part of Karl Rove's plan to produce the illusion that an investigation was going on.

The too-perfect movie star looks should have been a dead giveaway.

18. The theory that Rove is singing about Cheney could be true -
He has a long personal history with * but I dont think he has the same with Cheney. I can imagine him taking the fall for * but it is a little harder to imagine him doing it for Cheney.

Well in any event, * will pardon the lot of them on the way out....

24. IMPEACH CHENEY FIRST! Seriously, for you fans of
Watergate history and symmetry, Agnew went down first (on unrelated matter), Ford was nominated and confirmed as VP, and then Nixon went down.

Question: Can a U.S. Attorney bring an indictment against a sitting VP? Or, given the political nature of the person and alleged offense, is VP immune from prosecution while in office?

The sad truth is that Bushco sent in its crack legal team (hence, 'sealed vs sealed') and solved this little problem just like they did the 2000 elections.
