Teen Returns From Jordan Abandoning Rendezvous With Man Met on MySpace.com
DETROIT (AP) -- A 16-year-old honor student from Michigan tricked her parents into getting her a passport and then flew off to the Mideast to be with a West Bank man she met on MySpace.com, authorities say. U.S. officials in Jordan persuaded her to turn around and go home before she reached the West Bank. She was on her way back to the U.S. Friday.

1. I'm speechless.
Where did they think she was going? Didn't they see the itinerary and confirmation of the tickets from the airline?

11. Not true
But to be book smart and to have common sense are two different things.

FYI my son is an honor student and he works very hard for that 4.0.

6. I went to HS with a guy that graduated Yale with a 4.0
In terms of real life, he's a total idiot.

7. The Navy was full of officers that could regurgitate anything from a book.
But from a common sense/real life/practical experience perspective were complete morons.

Then I went to the corporate world and found they took it to a whole new level.

8. this quote from mom is craptastic
Edited on Fri Jun-09-06 08:13 PM by Blue_Tires
.....Shawn Lester told The Saginaw News that her daughter has "never given me a day's trouble. ... I just don't understand with all these new laws protecting America how a 16-year-old kid could get out of the country.".........

there you go--blame the government and the law in place of your parental shortcomings....YOU got her the passport! YOU (most likely) either willingly or through ignorance gave your daughter a means to buy an expensive ticket...and lastly, it is YOU that somewhere along the line forgot to instill in your daughter that you do NOT travel to the other side of the planet to meet some loser jagg-off on MySpace!

crazy

12. I heard her say that "computers are through in her household".
The mom sounds like a real winner. I think we've found our problem.

9. Please keep her the hell out of Egypt!
I'm working/living here temporarily. If she'd run off to Jordan after a virtual meeting, she might actually BELIEVE the pickup lines Egyptian men use on female American tourists:

"I would trade all 4 of my wives for you!"

"You are worth 40 camels!"
