I think that SD election does prove Dean's strategy.
We got out spent 2-1 and lost by 4 points.

You guys should understand just how red SD county really is, in direct contrast to the rest of the state. Its up there with the most red states.

SO if we press in every election, every race - make them fight for seats they previously took as a gimme - they can't possibly keep up.

I am so glad Dean is in charge.

And I really think, if that lady just shut up a little more, she could have actually won - it is really amazing.

We are in very good shape here.

Joe

1. But... how could that possibly be?
We can't win unless we cut fat checks to beltway insiders! 9 out of 10 beltway insiders AGREE!

2. I agree. Busby lost by what 4points? She lost to Duke in 2004 by
20points. And that district has 50,000 more repukes registered than dems. I think that was quite an accomplishment. By Nov maybe she'll win by 10points.

4. Excellent point, Joe!
All the gloom and doomers don't seem to understand that this is a very republican district and we lost by only four points compared to 22 two years ago all the while being out spent 2-1.

9. She said or implied that it was ok for illegals to help
in her election bid. Man, don't EVER say that in San Diego.

I think she might have actually won if she just didn't say anything.

14. In truth, I really don't think that is
what she meant to say - but that is sure how it got reported.

She was speaking to a largely latino audience at the time.

She tried to correct her remarks - but too late.

It was all over the news here. It cost her.

16. It really is.
And that sound bite got picked up by all the media here.

San Diego is a good place to vacation - but I sure wouldn't want to live there.

If she was running in SF it wouldn't have got covered like that. She should have known better.

It was pretty dumb.

in the '70's & '80's in La Jolla, Encinitas, Carlsbad, Ocean Beach, & Golden Hill before I was into politics and didn't nothin' from nothin'.

18. It is so pretty.
Nice weather nearly all the time.

I take LA though. SD has a bad karma - maybe they are too close to Orange County, got infected.

It is so pretty though.

19. You're right about the
bad Karma..they're reaping what they're sowing and Camp Pendleton is right there in Oceanside and their Marines were involved in Hiditha.

Snip~

"His mother, Susie Briones, told The Bee earlier this week that her son last November helped remove bodies of 24 Iraqi citizens who were killed by Marines in an incident that has stirred international outrage. Roel Briones, now back at Camp Pendleton, suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and hit his breaking point when he was arrested while on leave in April, she said."

8. That snake Mehlman was on some PBS thing today
while I was driving to the market. I just heard a snatch of the Wednesday morning quarterbacking, the announcer talking about the very narrow victory in SDC, and Mehlman sneered, "But that's what the LOSERS always say!"

At that point I stuffed in a CD and went on my merry way. I'd change that station, but their format is locally produced NM Spanish music and it's generally great driving music.

10. Dean understands the need for Democratic infrastructure.
Edited on Wed Jun-07-06 04:02 PM by AX10
Now, where was the infrastructure for this election?

We will need victories in the real swing districts.

If we have higher voter turnout in Noovember, Busby could eke out a win.

12. I think the point is more simple.
She should have lost by 20 points down there. I have lived in LA since 1966. And I know SD - real well. Red as red can be.

I thought we dems maybe had a bias of 10 points - Now, I think it really is closer to 16.

They can't cheat - spread is way too big.

We do need victories in swing states. But I think this shows, they are all swing states now.

They will have a fight in the reddest areas - they don't have a chance in the purple - and we will make them spend their capital in those reddest states in any event.

I am sure glad Howard is running this thing. I have had enough of attorneys doing it and losing.

We have them.
