Many months ago, I signed up with MLB.com for what seemed like a cool package, all the Baseball my little heart desired for a mere 79 dollars. Since I don't have a TV, because frankly, most entertainment programs suck these days, I am now throught the MIRACLE of the Internet able to watch Major League baseball on my computer screen. The only little drawback, was of course my local teams were blacked out, but that was ok, for you waited those games to get over, and you could watch the entire game in replay a bit later.
That is until now...
Seems like FOX has somehow got Major League Baseball by the leather threads and have blocked ALL GAMES up and until 7pm Western Standard time...It doesn't matter if you are watching in Guam or the Netherlands...If FOX doesn't want you to view a baseball game, (whether they broadcast a game or not) You can't see it.
This makes me wonder. What kind of wonderful, Sweet deals are next in store for FOX. Are they going to block you from seeing news from ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CBS, and CNN simply cause they have their guy in the White house?
I can see it now, you turn on your TV to hear what the Clown in the White House, has to say in his speech before the nation, and all the channels are blacked out (No programing whats so ever) while FOX NEWS broadcasts his majesties words...
I always wondered what would happen if they decieded to put the WORLD SERIES on pay-per-view. Would the public go ballistic? If the Superbowl, Stanly cup playoffs, NBA Playoffs, the Final Four and even the Olympics were exclusively pay per view..would the public simply toss their TV sets out the window in protest? Or slap down a nice fat 50 dollar paid event fee?
Now, granted everyone knows that Sports is not the last word in Humanity, that there are people who never watch it, nor care about it, but it makes you wonder, if someone is able to block out an entire sport on the internet during the weekends, whats coming next? News Black outs? Pay per view news? People are already paying for cable, for what they used to watch for free with a pair of rabbit ears and some aluminum foil. In some places like Santa Barbara California, if you don't have cable TV you don't watch TV pure and simple.
"Were sorry, we can not give you the local news because the Network has it blocked out. Of course, we have this great little package here for $9.99 a minute where you can call up and hear your local news on the telephone."
Grrrrrrr. some where Rupert Murdock is making alot of dollars at our expense. If FOX NEWS were to find someway to become the ONLY news broadcast in town, you could be sure this country would be on the last leg of its final days. God, I hope he, like Bush, chokes on a damned pretzel.
