Peter King: "They're going to regret the day they did this to New York"
On Hardball just now regarding the cuts in Homeland Security funding to NY.

He says they're going to be brought up in front of the committee many times. R vs R. Ya gotta love it.

1. Don't forget who "does the counting" Peter.
Glad he's fighting for NY. Just think the guy is a jerk for the most part.

4. Oh yeah, he's a jerk
And he's running for reelection with the rest of them. This was a nice piece of grandstanding.

13. He's an odd guy.
He does some progressive things on Irish issues. And on the majority of issues, his thinking is concrete, and he lends evidence of very little insight.

17. He opposed the Clinton impeachment.
He was the most vocal anti-impeachment Republican in the House. I think he was motivated by Clinton's Irish policy, plus the fact that he evidently liked Clinton personally, but it was still the one time I found him admirable. Other than that: the hackiest of hacks.

2. Peter King (R-NY) is severely pissed-off!
Edited on Thu Jun-01-06 04:21 PM by DemoTex
He wants to try link the Department of Homeland Security to Cunningham and Hooker-gate. Popcorn anyone?

Edit: On Hardball. Repeat at 7pm EDT. Lead story. Worth watching to see Peter King's eye twitching with rage.

9. I want to see him bring them up in front of the committee over and over
I'd bring popcorn for that one. And even get up early in the A.M. to catch the sessions. R's being really tough on R's? Maybe and maybe not.

21. some choice quotes from Pete (OUCH!):
Edited on Thu Jun-01-06 05:04 PM by wordpix2
"Chertoff is changing his story by the day...by the hour...it adds up to nothing."

"I don't think Chertoff told Bush about this...this is like the Dubai Ports deal."

Tweety asked, "Do you smell corruption?"
A: "I smell imcompetence and bias...narrowmindedness...it's phony and inexcusable."

"DHS undercuts NYC ever time."

"The DHS peer review panel is secretive...its formula makes no sense."

"I was told New York just wants the money... New York has spent every penny it's received properly."

(Note: some of these are not word for word quotes but pretty close)

3. We need to point out that THIS is his reward for bending over...
Backwards for Dub & Co., even when he must have known it was wrong to do so!

They ought to hang him up in Times Square and beat the palms of his feet!

B-)

8. I'm sure he knows it's politcal...
(....even though he chalked it up to incompetency at a lower level than Chertoff.)

The politcal aspect could lose him his nice job as a Long Island Congressman.

5. You mean Mr. "We'll take care of the counting" is having a little
buyers remorse?

Watch the first part of Faye's excellent film:

10. Gawd I wish Tom Suozzi would give up the Governor's race
and go bite King in the ass. Apparently the Dem party doesn't think King's vulnerable and I sure as hell can't understand why.

7. Peter King is the biggest blowhard that ever graced politics and
I don't even live in NY.

I wonder how he rationalizes his stand on illegal immigration with the pro-IRA people he worked with in the 1990's to get Gerry Adams a visa to visit the US... My guess is he knows the Irish illegals in NY personally.

20. H20 Man, Peter King to me is nothing but a low life, pandering
POS... He saw an opportunity in the 1990's and ran with it...

He appealed to the "erstatz" Irish Republicans that live in his district on Long Island. I'm sure you know the type, the ones that get misty-eyed at a rendition of "James Connolly", "The Men Behind the Wire", or "Joe McDonell". People that never even set a foot in the Six Counties yet with a few drinks in them claim to be in the "know" about everything that ever happened in the history of that place.

When Mr. King made his comment about "counting the votes" in 2004, he reminded me of Ian Paisley and the rest of his cohorts in the Democratic Unionist Party of Northern Ireland. Yes, the Rev. Dr. Ian Paisley who still refers to the Pope as the "Anti-Christ".

In my Irish-American family all of us were raised with this warning: 'never forget where you came from'. I never forgot that my great grandparents were forced to leave their homes because they were poor and Catholic.

Mr. King in embracing the ideology of the current Republican Party and all that it stands for has, IMHO, definitely forgotten where "he" came from.

24. I recognize that
you have the right to your opinion. However, I know that a person does not have to have set foot in the 6 counties to know right from wrong. And I think that a significant number of Irish-Americans agree with Peter King's position on Irish issues. In fact, he's pretty well thought of by the Irish Echo, which is the largest Irish newspaper in the USA. It's readers are the "type" of Irish-Americans I know.

Chertoff and DHS, that's for sure.

25. Tweety pressed King on the limo connection and Pete said that contractor
irregularities might be part of it.

LOL---not to mention, using DHS money to drive officials (and pimps and prostitutes?) to Watergate romps.
