Eugenics Via Norplant

I want to tell you all about a experince I had .
I was in a residential psych housing program in the early to mid 90's in Maryland called Dulaney Station. I look white. My roomate was black. Neither of us were sexually active.

At this time I was fighting to get my tubes tied. My shrink was getting in my way as was the program.. My insurance would cover it so money was not the issue.I didn't know why my therapist was so hung up. I wanted to get my tubes tied.They didn't. I got my tubes tied eventually but I was delayed for a few months arguing with my doctors who were more concerned about preserving my breeding capabilities than I was.I am transgender,I don't identify as a woman.I don't like kids.It was all very strange and it got stranger..


Meanwhile during all this drama with my therapists trying to convince me to keep my fertility ,I found out my black roomate was FORCED to have Norplant put in her arm to stop her fertility.
I even felt the cylander things under the skin of her upper arm.I asked her if she wanted it. She said no.I asked her why she got it put in if she didn't want it.She said staff told her they would kick her out into the street if she refused to take Norplant.
That pissed me off. Because the staff bullied her into taking Norplant against her will.

And they lied to her too. A Staff could not kick a resident out of a state psych rehab housing program suddenly without breaking the state law.. Staff cannot kick out a client from a program legally without a discharge plan, A discharge plan is an arrangement for therapy, housing ect.,or some proof the client chose to go themself,or a report of a violent incident(usually client went back to the hospital or to jail in those cases legally they could not go free).

While the program tried to get in the way of my reproductive choices they bullied my black roomate into a reproductive choice she did not want.That Norplant could have hurt her.

This whole thing bothered me.Dulaney station had mixed races there. Some whites blacks and others. So I asked around. I found out the non white clients were being bullied into various ways of limiting reproduction,mostly Norplant or shots. White clients were not even approached about it.

Looks to me like the state of Maryland was practicing Eugenics on the non white psych clients of Dulaney Station as far as I am concerned. When you look at the link below it is very creepy and suspicious what may have been going on at Dulaney.

Brings a whole new meaning to the use of the word "bitch" as applied to women.

I'm glad you brought this back into our attention. It's another piece of the reproductive rights issue that has been obscured by the pro/anti abortion debate.

I'm sorry for your experience, and for your room mate's.

Here's a Wikipedia link that has some background about forced sterilization and selective breeding practices from around the world. It's a perfect example of how a seemingly good idea, selective reproduction to improve humans, can be twisted into something so sinister and lethal.

2. It's good to bring this up

It such a serious issue that doesn't get addressed. Another one "under the radar"

So many people are funny, if they think it doesn't directly affect them, they'll ignore it--Even if it's something as important as this, something that affects every single human being.
The concept and sometimes practice, of eugenics never died.

3. Have you ever considered reporting this to

the State Attorney General? Race based treatment plans are blatantly illegal.

I don't know of any regulatory agency that would take these types of complaints, but there must be at least one regulatory agency that governs psych centers.

4. It was years ago

I did report it,I got grabbed thrown to the floor and choked by a night staff soon after I told too. It's a crazy story what happened .Anyways I wonder if it would do anything now,years after it happened..?It happened in the early mid 90's and the program is gone.
I have no clue where my old roomie is.Or even if she's alive. The state(and white)doctors over drugged her and it almost killed her. Luckily one (black ironically)staff Mary heard my concern for my roomie and she demanded the docs lower her drugs and she began to improve amazingfly after her drugs were reduced to more reasonable doses. It was sadistic how much the doctors drugged her. She would wet the bed because she could not function,and stop breathing sometimes she was so tranquilized. It was when I noticed the long pauses in her breathing one afternoon as she slept that I told Mary I was scared about it and I told her I thought she may die from over medication.I had Mary observe her breathing,and during a pause Mary got scared and shook her to make her breathe.My roomie slept all the time. And when she was at the day program they forced her to stay awake.Being forced by staff to stay awake under excessive sedation is a hideous form of torture,I went through it myself when I was a teenager in Sheppard Pratt. So my heart went out to my roomie.

I got in deep shit,assaulted, threatened,bullied,had restrictions put on me, thrown in the hospital(when I was not having problems it was because I "challenged" staff,All for standing up for other patients/clients who were being abused,coerced manipulated and fucked with by the staff or the system.. I tell ya,there are alot of bullies and psychopaths posing as "Staff" in mental help places,and I had a problem with them and because I refuse to stand by when they abused people,they hated me..It was hell in those places.Most people have no clue how it is.Abuse is rampant.And most of the years I spent in the psych treatment it made my PSTD worse,mostly because of staff's abusiveness and mind games..

5. One of my best friends

volunteered for years in a psych center tutoring kids. I've always known though his stories that psych centers were where the most sadistic doctors and staff ended up. They migrated there because they could get away with anything, and nobody would stop them, defend the patients, or believe anything the patients said.

6. The hatred

I have for bullies "alphas" ,authoritarians,dominator's and sociopaths never dies.
I hate them with my whole heart. And I would gladly throw the switch that would destroy all of them if I could and it was foolproof that no one without such an evil personality would ever be mixed in with these monsters. They are not human beings to me anymore because their personalities are so toxic,destructive and abusive.I can't stand them and what they do and frankly I wish these types of personalities never existed..What are they good for? Nothing except creating traumas,sadism,and making sick social hierarchies and creating situations where people hurt each other.

There is nothing good in a conduct disordered,bully ,abuser,predatory, sociopath, authoritarian ,con man,personality.They are a waste of human flesh.
They deserve no pity or tolerance or excuses.
I'd prefer to smash them to dust when they play their ploys.Give them red hot hate and after that, more hate.I don't care who they are,or who they THINK they are,if they are an asshole they are scum.

Non bullies should learn to fuck up all their games,tell all their secrets and destroy their narcissistic supply ,end their power plays, expose their motives, disrupt their social manipulations,disrupt their self serving dynamics,give them no privacy, or cover and never ever let them get away with anything..Make them think twice before attempting to be an asshole control freak around you..I wish death or a forced personality change(into a non bully) to all bullies.Nothing else will do. Change or suffer until you die assholes.

This is how I deal with the bully.
This is why staff hated me. I wish more people would not waste time on being an apologist for,pitying and protecting abusers ,bullies and sociopaths as if they were emotionally functioning people who were capable of feeling shame or remorse when they hurt someone.
I wish more people would quit hating the hurt and would instead hate the harmers that hurt people.

7. I know of a case like this

A young woman who worked for me, who is Latina, had a baby when she was a teenager. Almost immediately after the birth she was pressured into getting the Depo shot, without really knowing the implications of it. The treatment she described receiving from the doctors was definitely racist and classist. Several years later, she decided to go off the shot in order to have a second child with her husband (also father of the first child). They have a loving, stable home from what I can see. It's been a year now and she still hasn't gotten pregnant and fears she never will. So it seems that we do still have forced sterilization in America.

The ONLY situation where I can see some justification for forced birth control/sterilization is where there is a history of a woman OR man abusing their children - for example, a woman who has had at least two kids taken away due to them being born with drugs in their system, or because they were abused/neglected, or a man beating his kids or committing sex offenses against children. There would also need to be proof that help (such as rehab or anger management classes) was offered and readily available and the person did not utilize it. At a certain point, I don't think having kids should be a "right" anymore. My neighbor who used to work for Child Protective Services for LA County agrees! But it needs to be equally applied to women AND the men who father the children and then abandon or abuse them, and based on actual behavior rather than assumptions based on racial or ethnic background.
