Jim and Jane Johnson were seniors and both approaching eighty, were concerned that their memories where beginning to fail so they visited their doctor.
After a complete neurological exam the doctor told them that while they did have some memory loss it was no more than average for their age and if they were concerned to compensate by writing themselves notes on things they wanted to be sure to remember.
The Johnsons returned home and later that evening while watching TV Jane got up to go to the kitchen, asking Jim if he wanted anything while she was up.
"Yes, thanks. I'd love a dish of vanilla ice cream, with chocolate syrup, nuts, and whipped cream."
"OK, I'll just be a couple of minutes."
"Better write it down like the doctor said, or you'll forget." cautioned Jim.
"No big deal," says Jane. "Vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, nuts and whipped cream. Don't need to write it down, I'll remember it."
She leaves the room as Jim mumbles to himself: "No you won't. You'll forget."
A couple of minutes later Jane returns to the living room and hands Jim a small paper bag. He opens the bag and looks in to see a bagel, then angrily speaks to Jane.
"See, I told you that you wouldn't remember. You forgot the cream cheese."
