Laughing Gulls, well, make me laugh (Dial-up beware)

These gulls were all over South Padre. They were very used to humans and one could get very close. If they thought you had food, they would get even closer.

Brrr. The water is cold.


A little too much shrimp cocktail this morning.

Maybe if I dip my head I'll feel better.

1. Nicely done.

Both the photos and the narrative. You have the makings of a children's book here. I remember focusing in on some shorebird, and thus paying more attention than usual, and just laughing at the jerky poses that bird assumed. One great benefit of photography is that it encourages us to really look at what we often see in front of us but usually ignore.

You are correct about photography making people notice what is in front of them. My wife, who has family in near South Padre and has visited the place upteen zillion times, thanked me this time because she said she had never noticed all the wildlife that was around her there. In fact, she had a little point and shoot with her and got very excited when she noticed these ripples in one of the channels. They were dolphins. I didn't have my camera so all we have are a few fuzzy pics my wife took of the fins as the pod of dolphins came up for air. It was cool though seeing dolphins in the wild.

The truly great wildlife photographs actually take the time to compose the shots. I am such a hobbyist at this that quite frankly the wildlife dictates what shots I take. I suppose I don't have the time to actually to compose the shots. But I try to get some interesting wildlife shots at any rate. Thank you for the comments.
