***Friday Pic thread***

Ok Kerrycrats,
In honor of our favorite Senator's meeting with Cindy Sheehan this week, how about a pic theme of "Kerry the anti-war activist" ? I'll start with the classic:

Vietnam Combat Ribbon:

just as people came to stand for hours to hear one or two Springfield songs last year.

3. Here's one
I've never seen before.

John Kerry speaks for the anti-Vietnam war resolution before the 38th Annual Meeting of The United States Conference of Mayors. Kerry was representing Vietnam Vetrans against the war at the Meeting in Philadelphia in June of 1971. In the photo, left to right, are Cleveland Mayor Carl Stokes, Conference President Philadelphia Mayor James Tate, Kerry, and Milwaukee Mayor Henry Maier.

4. with Hubert Humphrey, before he joined the military
he was probably about 20 when this pic was taken. but it was while he was in college and giving Humprhey an anti war petition. it's interesting because he is seen as being anti war based on what he did after he came back from Vietnam. but even before he joined he had doubts, and his father was always very much against the war. his joining the military didn't have much to do with belief in this specific war. this is why he is able to understand the honor and sacrafice of those who die in wars that he opposes. just look at his words to Cindy Sheehan.

And he is a Kerry fan - he and his sister went to PA on election day to do GOTV. One of his friends from high school was working for ACT there.

He is a Kerry fan - but needless to say, NOT in the LLL way. :-)

35. Nah. I dated what I thought was one, but
He was a Deaniac. A really fanatic self-described "kossack" with the next thing to a straight man-crush on Dean. Needless to say, that didn't last.

And he looks reasonable compared to the OTHER lefty guys on my campus. :(

Geez, and those deep eyes and that 'just noticeable' beard growth. Hmmmm. He was just irresistable.

As a candidate for the the US House of Representatives in the 5th Congressional District, John Kerry addresses the Democratic National Platform Committee on May 30, 1972, at Faneuil Hall. In the foreground is Providence mayor Joseph Doorley (left) and David S. Nelson, assistant attorney general of Massachusetts.

It makes it even more remarkable. Seeing results from his anti-war activism. Looks like he's taking notes.

So many vintage elements to this picture: bean-bag chair, shag rug, TV with rabbit ear antenna, wicker shelves. So very 70s.

Geez, I prefer the jeans. Somewhat tight, well-worn jeans. Hmmmmmm.

And The Senator has aged very well indeed. It's a blast to look at these old pics. I have so many memories of Kerry through the years and these bring them all back. He really is delicious.

Transitional Kerry pics from 1996:

and of course, a magnanimous toast by the winner!

27.  That haircut -
a bit shaggy but still under control - and the neat blue shirt under a scruffy Army one - that's 70's Kerry to me. A study in contrasts. Such an interesting man.

I knew David Nelson a little. He was a lovely man.

He was a cute kid, handsome young man,and a distinguished and still handsome older man. Always an above average alpha-male. :) (OK maybe you have to be a boomer like me to be "into" the 70's haircut)

My daughter and I have an ongoing discussion on the subject. I have a real weakness for shagginess, and she likes clean-cut, as does my older son, who gets his hair cut much too often to suit his mom.

The younger one, though - long hair AND beard and moustache. My hippie child. :-)
