Has anyone ever gotten an email like this: Subject:Microsoft Outlook Test Message
This is an e-mail message sent automatically by Microsoft Outlook's Account Manager while testing the settings for your POP3 account.
------------end of email------------------

I never use my MS Outlook, I use Thunderbird and the from/to were my email address.

someone else setting up their account but they accidentally put in your email info?

edit to add: look at the expanded header for the message, and see if it contains any clues (eg, an isp other than your own)

2. Never seen it.
I assure you that I, most likely, might have you beat on setting up computers and email programs.

Well, maybe. ;-)

3. Had me spooked, I gave my brother my old machine a year or so ago and he
hit the contact us in some page and was trying to change the from (which is mine) and he got all missed up and hit send. I'll have to go over and check it out.

I have done mostly programming. Started with 1401 8k using sps and autocoder back in 64.

I added new email account in Outlook 2007 in manual mode. Auto mode would probably just send it without asking. It makes typing the the inbound and outbound effortless, which is a plus for me now that I just want to get it done so I can send emails.

Hope this helps.

5. Any chance you recently installed Office 2003/2007?
When you create the links to your email during the initial configuration of Outlook, it sends two messages that look very similar to that.

6. Thanks got a handle on it. My old computer still has MS Office on it
that I gave to my brother. He called me right after I posted and told me he screwed up. I will go and uninstall it later this week.

7. Funny.
I've set up so many Windows/Office boxes in my life that I probably could have told you the word for word statement made in the body of the default emails.

Maybe it is a good thing I finally got laid off. Normal people shouldn't memorize crap like that.

:-)
