I usually use ham, but I'm having to go cheap. I actually found a piece that doesn't look too bad, little more than half fat. .7 lb. is that too much?

2. A few slices of it .... go easy
The flavor's pretty strong.

It freezes well, so save the remainder for next time.

3. yep
Think about all those cans of pork and beans that have a piece of salt pork about the size of a postage stamp. You wouldn't want to use more than about a pack of gum in size for a pound of beans.

5. Is that what that is?
I've always called them lard and beans. My dad said that when he was a kid he didn't like pork and beans because there was too much pork in them.

6. I like the Ren and Stimpy explanation better.
What is that big white thing floating in the can of beans? Why...why...it's the Queen Bean!

Saw that years ago and it cracked me up so bad at the time, I never forgot it. LOL
