Once Denounced Gay Film Wins Ovation At Sarajevo

A film about gay lovers trying to escape the horrors of 1992-95 Bosnian civil war received a standing ovation on the weekend when it was given a preview screening at the Sarajevo Film Festival.

It was a reaction that surprised even its maker, Ahmed Imamovic.

While Imamovic was making "Go West" there were numerous threats on his life from irate Bosnians opposed to any mention of homosexuality in the extremely macho country. Religious leaders condemned the film. And, there were protests wherever the crew was shooting.
