Britons 'less willing to pay for taxes to help others'
Britons are less willing than ever to pay higher taxes to support the National Health Service, schools or the environment, a new survey suggests.

The National Centre for Social Research's 28th annual British Social Attitudes report also found increasing numbers blaming poverty on "laziness".

The BBC's Home Editor Mark Easton said it was a move towards "more emphasis on individual responsibility".

He said Britons were becoming increasingly "judgmental".

1. Sadly not suprising
We are an increasingly selfish society, and large sections of the media are dedicated to demonising the poor at every available opportunity.

2. Ugh. But not surprising, given all the vicious propaganda in much of our media.

3. The 1%
are flexing their muscles in Britain. Why did we establish the welfare state (almost a dirty word nowadays)?

Ah, it must have been nice to be able to look forward without wallowing in cynicsm.

5. Seriously?
You honestly believe the Attlee government and those who elected it, saw the welfare state as soemthing only they and their children should benefit from, with an expiration date for bound-to-be-feckless future generations?

Even by your ********* standards that's ******* ****** bulldog****.

6. Funny how levels of simple laziness mysteriously rise when the economy goes down the crapper.
If this survey were credible, all it would tell us is that an increasing proportion of Britons are idiots. No great surprise there. But the sample is far too small, especially in the context of radically changed economic circumstances, to tell us anything meaningful about peoples views on these sorts of issues.
