The Canadian and British beaches were code named after fish. Thus the Brits got Gold and Sword,we got Jelly. Which the Canucks understandably didn't like. So they picked a different "J" word, Juno from Roman mythology.

I recall reading about an Australian variety whose sting has people crying in agony after they have been put under with morphine. At least that's what Bill Bryson said in his travel book about Australia.
